I was seraching for something on Google News, and a headline popped up "Epcot Center Mexican Pavillion Redesigned" from a Mexican financial paper, posted on July 2, 2003. The link is invalid, and I tried searching the site and couldn't find anything. Has anyone heard anything?

If someone else wants to try and find it on the website the paper is "El Financiero México."

There's another article that suggests that Disney is looking in to ways to update Mexico at Epcot.

See http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/living/6113202.htm

The article discussed Xcaret, Mexico — including a big show there. The following paragraph is toward the end of the article:

The two-hour show was recently staged for Disney employees, who were seeking ideas on how to update the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT in Orlando.

Of course, there's a big difference between researching ideas and actually getting the funding to implement improvements based on those ideas.

I really like Xcaret. I have been there 2 times and we are going back in October. The night show is fantastic! I was actually wondering if Sea World execs had seen Xcaret before designing Discovery Cove because it looks a lot like that park. I am kind of hoping they do not build that huge port because the Mayan Riviera is a beautiful place and they are already pushing it with the build up of it.

:( My own personal opinion is that I wouldn't mind them adding a new show at the mexican pavilion, as long as they don't change El Rio Del Tiempo or the outdoor marketplace theme of the pavilion. Maybe just some new entertainment. Speaking of entertainment. whatever happened to those guys that played the marimba over by the cantina? I know for a while they had it over at the pepper market at coronado springs, but haven't seen it there either. Anyone know anything about that?

i think that the inside of the pavillion is really cool. maybe they are planning on adding something outside. cause i really don't want them to change el rio del tiempo. i really like that ride.

On a somewhat related note, when did they rearrange the stores to remove the 2nd floor? I would swear that in one of the shops, you could walk upstairs. It seems as though the retail space has been reduced in recent years.

I know which store you are refering to. It was on the left hand side going towards el rio del tiempo. It was the first store on the left hand side. It had a lot of expensive glass and pottery items, and it wasn't really a second floor, it was just an elevated section on the back half of the store. That whole store has been closed for a while now. :(

I remember that place. It was like Pier 1 on steroids. I was always afraid of breaking some psudeo-Mexican artifact that cost more than my whole trip. :)

I think El Rio del Tiempo could be re-shot movie wise...just like almost all of the other movies around the world show case.

Sorry,but the '90's weren't much better.

Maybe they could serve "take out" as you cruise past San Angel Restaurant.

"The 80's in Mexico arent too glorious."

If only the film WAS shot in the 80's. Judging from the color saturation and the clothing worn by the people in the background, I'm nearly certain that most of that footage actually dates from the early to mid 1970's.

The ride is very pleasant, but it's REALLY time to get some new film clips.
