Changes to the DDP - will this make you reconsider?

I would only reconsider if I can get an appetizer instead of dessert. Maybe the soup would be OK. I'm sticking with TIW for now.

I think it's fantastic, love having more flexibility. Much needed change, IMO. We weren't going to use the DDP next trip, but now may reconsider.

How much is the price going up? We used it many years ago when DVC could first get the plan. It included appetizer and tip and I think it was about $35 a day for adults. Ah, the good old days.

Never used DDP and I have no plans of ever using it. DW and I prefer to use our DVC kitchen/kitchenette for at least one meal a day. We still plan and spend the same amount of monies on food for each and ever trip since we started DVC membership.

That was my first thought too!

It'll be nice to use Deluxe credits when we have family join us for dinner. There's only so many signatures you can eat at and I refuse to do 3 TS every day for our entire vacation.

Overall, it makes this more complicated :) Which means more mistakes and errors.

I think it is a good change because I would much rather have a soup or Salad than dessert.
And happy to see more food items for a snack.
Unfortunately I will not get the DDP because my 13 year old eats 4 nuggets and a cookie with maybe 10 frenchfries and paying adult prices for her is insane.

She still looks very young but I will bite the bullet and go for crazy for our thanksgiving brunch at Chef mickeys.
But while I enjoy buffet's I cannot justify paying adult for my daughter so just one we will do.
They really need to come up with a teen pricing.
10-15 years old paying as an adult is crazy!:sad2:

I'll still save more with my tiw with the places we eat at and how many meals a day we have.

I'd say those options improve it, but we'll still just pay OOP and sometimes get the TIW.

Personally I think they should just go with some sort of point system and skip all of these substitution type things. And if it all just went away that would be fine too. :)

For our upcoming trip in October this might work out really well for us. We have a villa with 5 Disney adults and 2 Kids. Our family is in another villa with 4 Disney adults that are joining us for 4 days of our trip. Based on the changes, it sound like we can book dining for us and use the credits for all us. Since we would be booking the deluxe plan, we can also use kids credits for adult meals. Doing a quick look at our dining plans, the credits on the deluxe plan would cover the meals for all of us including 2 signature meals.

If having two room reservations like Senadler, this may make sense now. I would have to run some numbers to compare.

We only do the deluxe dining plan for our first night stay in a studio before we switch over to a one-bedroom. We get our money's worth doing it that way. Glad to see that you can get a soup or salad or fruit plate instead of a dessert. When we used to do the dining plan more, our fridge would be filled with styrofoam containers of desserts that we just could not eat.

Actually, we have been substituting a cheese platter for our desserts at some signature restaurants with no issue from the server.

They can't increase the price until Jan. 1. If it gets much higher, I don't think we will continue with the one night of deluxe.

That was a great plan. It crashed and burned, though, because most people were not aware that there was a "cap" on the tip included. Many waitstaff got under tipped and from what I was told the union got involved. One of the reasons why tip is no longer included in the price. We discovered this by accident when examining one of our receipts one night after getting back to our room.

I guess as DVC members, most of us don't want or need a dining plan because of our accommodations. But for families on a tight budget, I guess it gives them an opportunity to have a nicer vacation.

Anyone remember the food and fun plan? For a certain price ($45/day?) you got $40 worth of food plus "fun" (I think water park, speed boat and some other stuff). I think they did away with that after a year. Oh, plus a "gift" too. We got t-shirts and a nice coffee table book about Disney.

Teen pricing would be interesting, however at 12 my son was eating more than me...

From wdwinfo.com: "Table-service meals – Guests can now choose a salad, soup or fruit plate instead of the dessert that is typically included with the meal." That's like an appetizer, yes?

They really need to come up with a teen pricing.

The kids that age I know eat like horses! My son just ate two big plates of pasta and is now having ice cream. He's a dancer and so are all of his friends (mostly girls).

Maybe they should be teen boy vs teen girl pricing:duck:

See above. And I, as a kid and teen, ate very decent amounts of food. Not all girls eat like yours. And my son has "deserved" adult pricing since he was 8 or so.

I'm tempted. We've never done it, and usually have TIW. But our next trip falls over the TIW blackout dates for some of the restaurants we would choose, so we're not planning to buy it this time. I like the idea of splitting a side salad and a dessert between our two meals. And it's a good value for the kids if we want to do character meals, especially if I can use one of their QS credits to have them split an adult meal.

Just to clarify...if the DDP price does increase, it cant happen until 2016? We def wanted the dining plan for our upcoming trip (havent booked it yet) and I wasnt sure if I booked it now I would save any money?

From what I've read, the DDP for DVC is negotiated on a calendar year basis. In the past when DDP prices have increased early in the year, the DVC cost has stayed the same. It's also why you wouldn't be able to add DDP to a reservation in 2016 yet.
