Changes to MYW Dining?

I just read on Touringplans.com (part of the Unofficial Guide) that meals on the MYW Dining plan will no longer be "pooled". Each person will their own allotment of meals which they use how they want.
They are waiting for confirmation from Disney. What a bummer

Its about time Disney got around to this. I'll probably be in the only one, but I think its the right thing to do....please excuse my while I put on my flame proof suit :)

I read about a week ago that they were thinking about this but it isn't official yet. We are going next week so I hope they hold off that long. Has anyone found a date of when the change will take place?

The problem I see with this is with the counter serve meals.....will a person be able to take 4 key cards and get 4 meals or will each person have to present their card??? I don't like the thought of having to drag everyone through the line when it is much easier to have 1 person wait with the kids and another get the food. As far as table serve, I see no problem.

I agree and disagree.

I think it's been a long time coming that they categorize and enforce the use of the kids credits. However, we had a couple of people in our group that left early and had like 4 TS, 4 CS and a bunch of snack credits leftover. If they go to a total individualized method, then they couldn't allow someone else to use those, unless there was a special card to give.

I'm not sure Disney would adopt the individual credit method. Could you imagine the headache for the servers!!! For a party of 12, they'd have to split all the tickets, get 12 cards... that would be insane!

I think they would have all the meals on one card, but categorized into adult meals and kids meals for CS and TS meals.

I have to agree that This is how it should have been from the start. When I read how people were conning the system I thought "Now why would Disney have it pooled all together in the first place?" I think we are getting an awesome value at $35 a day $10 for children, but I guess there are those that still want to milk the system for more. I'm sure they saw how much they were losing and decided to fix thier error.

I agree with them doing this as well...especially after some of the things I've read where people are trying to get around the credit use...

This is what makes sense to me as well.

I think that credits should be assigned individually too, we are paying "per person" after all.

I didn't even know the credits were pooled until last week and after reading all the posts about the dining plan and how to maximize it, etc....it looked too stressful and complicated to me to try and get more for you're dollar when you're already being given so much.

My vacation time is too important to me to be worried about pooling here and there and paying OOP to gain another credit, etc..

I'll be happy to just use what is offered to me by buying the dining plan. I won't be using it until April 06 so I'm sure things will change one way or another before then.

I don't think Disney anticipated the number of guests that would be paying cash for kids meals and using a credit that cost $10 (or was free) to buy a $40 TS meal, $12 CS meal and a $3 snack.

Then we get the guests who either want to make up a kid or buy the plan for a one year old, who normally eats free, to get extra credit to use for adult signature meals.

Sounds like this change is just going to make sure the plan is used as intended.

I don't mind having separate credits for children and adults, I think that's sensible and fair. But if the credits are actually *individualized* (that is, assigned to each person individually), I would hope that in non buffet, non all you can eat restaurants, that I would be able to order a three course meal and share it with my husband who is not ordering anything.

We honestly really don't need 2 three-course meals at one time! We would, however, go back to another restaurant later in the trip to use the other credit -- and each time we're in a restaurant, that's an opportunity for Disney to make more money from off-plan purchases, like extra drinks or alcoholic drinks or children's meals for under 3s who don't have credits to use, etc.

This is our plan, acutally, for group meals too -- each couple/room will start by ordering one complete credit meal, the couple with a 4yo will order a separate children's meal on the DS's credit, and we will share it all around.

As for individual credits, I think it makes sense to pool the credits and keep them 'per reservation' -- or allow any adult in the room to use another person's card. It would be foolish to have an entire family stand in line for one or two CS meals, and difficult to keep kids entertained. I want to be able to send someone to the CS line and others to get/clear/set up a table if one is available (We'l need/prefer two highchairs and possibly a booster seat).

Hearing all this makes me happy that my kids are now considered adults...all our credits will be identical and we won't have the hassle of figuring out which is which.

We got in on free dining, so it was a no-brainer to take advantage. I plan to keep track, though, of what we're eating and whether it would have made sense for us to pay for the plan. This is a great 'test run' for future trips for us in deciding whether to get the plan or not.

I hope that the only change is for adults vs chid meals. We got this with our reservations back in April and it keeps changing which isn't really fair to those who are actually paying for it and using it honestly. My 10 year old eats like a bird and is charged as an adult on the plan. If I am paying for him out of pocket I don't see why we can't use 2 of his meals for one signature for us. I know we have no choice at the buffets, but I feel this was not planned out very well by Disney. Those of us who are honest about their kids are the ones who are losing out

I don't think people were trying to "scam" Disney...after all, most pay alot of money just to go! Trust me, Disney makes money no matter how the credits are distributed.

And before the meal plan...the Dreammaker pkg w/ wishes also "pooled" the credits so if Disney changes things, I'll be surprised.

And I agree with the poster that said...Disney makes way more money on the on the items that you can't purchase on the meal plan.

Disney is smart...they know exactly what they are doing! lol :)

Not most, but some guests were going to make up children to get extra credits. Others were going to age a 2 year old to 4 so they could get extra free credits. Scam is an understatement. Fraud might be more accurate.

I agree most people were just looking to "maximize" the value of the plan and taking advantage of a loophole. I'm sure Disney knows what guests are doing and if/when it gets out of hand they'll make the necessary changes.

I don't think requiring guests use the plan as intended, child credit used to get a child's meals, is a bad change.

That does not really make sense because everyone in your party has to have MYW tickets, and they all have to be the same so if you make up a child or age a child older you have to figure in the cost of their park tix. Not really the best way to save money!!!

We used the MYW plus dining and did use our dd4 meals for us, she shared every meal with me, she eats about 2 bites and is done, what a waste of a meal that would be if we got her her own dinner and dessert and app every night, very wasteful!! I think if Disney had a problem with it they would have changed it long before now, plus all the CM's we encountered told us ways to maximize the dining plan, sharing, kids OOP, etc.......

I agree...we are in the same boat. I'm not trying to cheat anyone or get the biggest bang for the buck. It's too much food for my ds12 and if we pd, OOP for his 'child' meal, we planned on using those credits to do a character breakfast on our last day. If things are changed, we might as well just eat CS one nite and pay OOP and be done with it. I get frustrated when things keep changing and yes, I know it's disney's right to do so but things keep changing and each CM says something different, there is no set 'rule'. I can understand that each situation is treated differently but my family can go to one restaurant and told one thing and another family, same restaurant with a different CM can be told a different story. I'll even go so far as to say, an identical family....and we'd both get a different story.

Just so I make sure I understand this possible change--

I have 4 adults (per WDW) and a child. We will have 25 credits for our trip. I can still choose to use them as I see fit, right? For example, I have planned:

HDDR (10 credits)
Crystal Palace (5 credits)
another character buffet (5 credits)
Sci-Fi Dine In (2 adult credits & buying one kid's meal OOP)
CRT (3 credits--2 Adult and one child)

As far as I can tell, for table service, I'm all set...right? That is 25 credits, equally disbursed between by child and adult credits.
