Changes to list of prohibited items - no more toy weapons for pirate night

They actually had a stated set of rules for costumes in between the adult-costume ban, though. And it said that if you wore something that was very close to the actual character, you couldn't have hair and makeup as well.

That's pretty clear and pretty easy to take care of.

Alas, as Disney does, they can't get their CMs to actually enforce their rules, and so the rules have to change.


But all of this being announced together, with the whole security issue thing, will always combine it, and I don't believe for a second that the mask ban (uh, didn't they ALWAYS have a mask ban????) is for that guest's safety. It's for facial recognition, and it's going along with everything else. (all the other security measures they had which have kept guests safe for HOW many decades now?).

Light strings that plugged in were already banned on DCL, to my understanding. At least they were last time I looked before our latest trip.

You have to go through security and a metal detector just to get on the ship. Why would wearing a Darth Vader mask be an issue while walking around the ship?

So what if you can't see someone's face. You can't see their face when they have their back turned to you either.

New rule: "You may no longer walk in a forward motion and must now walk side to side with your back to the railing whenever walking around the ship so that everyone can see everyone elses face at all times."

If you've ever worn a real set of Stormtrooper/Clonetrooper/etc. armor, you'd know that moving about is not exactly easy. We have handlers to help us move from place to place in the 501st. When Luke said, "I can't see a thing in this helmet" he was right. I have to be very careful when around children at events. I've still managed to knock kids over because my handler didn't warn me that a kid had come up to me in my blind spot. I can see somewhat out of the t-visor on my clone, and a little bit out of the mouth to see down, but that's it. Tusken Raiders are even worse. Walking on a ship when it's in motion is difficult enough for some people. Going up and down stairs is really, *really* difficult in armor. Add in a helmet and it's comical to try and go up and down stairs. Disney doesn't want somebody hurting themselves, or someone else, while wearing a helmet. It makes perfect sense.

My wife and I will be enjoying a cruise on the Disney Fantasy in March with a Star Wars night. I noticed you said in a recent note: ?please refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements, as these items will not be allowed onboard.?



We were planning on bring Star Wars props of light sabers, essentially an LED flashlight with a plastic tube on the end. There are no sharp edges as there would be with a sword. I?ve included a link to the type of light saber we would bring and a couple pictures. Is there an issue with brining these on board and carrying them during the Star Wars day.

We got the Star Wars cruise email as well. What I am curious about is that was sent prior to the change in rules around costumes and toy guns, etc in the parks. Which rules apply? I know they said light sabers are fine but how is that different from a toy sword as far as either one being "dangerous"?

This may be an unpopular view point, but I'm totally ok with no more toy weapons of any kind on the ship. Many times I've see unsupervised children 'battling' with these sharp swords with no adults in sight. Poking each other and.... other guests as they walk by. I know I've opened up the Pandora's Box about parental supervision...but it's a continuing issue and concern.

The same can be said for shuffleboard. Even "supervised" children have hit me and tripped me with the shuffleboard sticks. I've gotten to where I avoid the Promenade if I see kids "playing" shuffleboard.

That's disappointing news that you can no longer bring toy weapons for Pirate Night. I had so much fun with my costume below when I sailed in last month. So many passengers and crew enjoyed my costume including Jack Sparrow. I even scared a few of the younger kids which was not my intention but I somewhat enjoyed.

Was the back part of the sword soft/bendable? Did you wear that all night or change into it after dinner? I'm just wondering how you sat down for dinner?

On the DCL website the Pirate League still lists a sword and sheath as among the accessories the kids get-wonder if this just hasn't been updated or if it will still be allowed as it is "purchased" on board?
