Again ... Disney does not sponsor Gay Days -- they have not "given" certain days to anyone. An organization named Gay Days organizes the events at Disney and other local theme parks, as well as other events throughout the year.

If all the redheads got together and decided to do "Redhead Days" at Disney, they could do exactly what the Gay Days organization does and create their own day. Disney wouldn't sponsor theirs either, but they also wouldn't prohibit it from happening.

:earsboy:

Exactly. I don't know what the official numbers are who attend Gay Days but the Tom Joyner Family Reunion at Disneyworld has around 10,000. Disney doesn't sponsor that either.

Sounds like the Texans here need to start Texans week! (And don't Mess with Them! ;) )
That sounds like a lot of fun. A different state featured every week.

If you book your package through gaydays.com ... yes!

:earsboy:

Yeah, but I guess that would be deceiving...technically. Seeing how I am happy gay and not homosexual gay.

I was born and raised in Texas but now live in New Mexico. I live in Ruidoso, NM where all the Texans come to ski and play so I might as well live in Texas...lol! I see way more white license plates than yellow most days. We are going to WDW in late April and I can't wait!

There should be a Texas week! Brenda

OMG! I am from Roswell originally. How funny! I was just telling my parents last weekend that I bet I could not even find my way around Ruidoso these days!
Do you happen to watch LOST? There was a segment a couple of weeks ago when they showed Kate's background and she robbed a bank in NM. The funny thing was she was supposed to be photographing old movie theatres and the banker told her to be sure and get the one in Ruidoso. Now my parents have been to Ruidoso a LOT over the last 60 years and my Dad and I swear there is not an old theater but my Mom thinks there was.
Looks like we just switched places - I came from NM to TX and you left TX to go to NM. How funny!

My family and I are going for the first time 6/4-6/11. I'm so glad I looked at the calendar beforehand to know what was going on. We will be catching the end of the "festivities". Can I ask a silly question? Do ya'll book your own hotels and such or do you go through one of these agents? I feel like such a novice ( I am..) by going through an agent and I am wondering if I'm getting the shaft or not.

That is funny. We go to Roswell a lot to shop since we only have the Wal-Mart and a bunch of local places. I moved up here almost 4 years ago and it's changed quite a bit in that time. It seems like they are always building something new.
I don't watch Lost but I have heard of it. There isn't an old theater that I know of...just the one that's been there about 20 years or so.
It's funny you live in Flower Mound...I have 2 uncles and their families who live in Lewisville, TX!
It's a small world after all....LOL! Can you hear the music? Have a great time at WDW!

Hey, I think that a Texas week would be cool! They wouldn't know what hit 'em. ;)

As for going during the summer, I always thought that I could be hot in north Texas or hot at Disneyworld and there's a lot more to do in Disneyworld!

ObrienofFM, I suggest checking a lot of different sources to see about pricing and breaking it all down to see how you come out. Packages tend to run higher but for some people the simplicity and convenience of a package is worth it. I personally book everything separately and actually got our hotel through Expedia the last time but how I do it varies. Good luck and have fun!

Dallas area Texan here too!

I have found wonderful prices when I booked through Disney Travel. They truly got me some awesome deals! I am also a AAA member which really pulls the price of the room down some. I usually have Disney Travel handle the airfare (unless I find it at a better price through orbitz.com or through the individual airlines) and the hotel. They really do take VERY good care of you! Their telephone number is 1-407-939-6244.

I make sure to stay at a Disney resort hotel (even the value one called Pop Century) and I still get my hotel room for around $70 or less a night through AAA. I understand that they can go even lower! The big plus with this are the amenities of having transportation straight from the hotel to the parks versus staying off site and having to make a gazillion stops at all of the hotels. It truly shaves off so much time, even over an hour at a trip! Also, when you purchase items in the parks, you can say, "Please have this sent to my Disney hotel" and it will be waiting for you the next day! How convenient is that ? ? ?

You can also purchase your park tickets through Disney Travel. I did in November and it was so nice to already have my park ticket in place. I did not have to exchange a voucher for the ticket when I got there so I really hit the ground running! I am already having them plan my September trip! I have found it to be more cost effective for me to purchase the airfare and/or hotel and park tickets separately, not as a "package". Good luck, my friend! :cool1:

Actually, I booked our very first trip as a package (no meals though) though a travel agent, and I was familiar with Disneyland in CA. For first timer or the more occasional visitor, a travel agent should be fine...let them handle all the details, it shouldn't cost you more than booking the same package through Disney. Remember, most of us on these boards a frequent visitors, and some folks are just natural over-planners :)

You may find it easier to make your own arrangements in the future after your are more familiar with WDW, the parks and all the resort choices.

 Thanks so much for your suggestions. I have learned so much and I appreciate all the feedback you took the time to type. I look forward to experiencing the Magic for the first time, knowing that there are fellow Texans there. How cool is that! :earboy2:

We go to WDW often and even though we are DVC members we still have DU make our non DVC reservations for us. They are constantly checking for price adjustments and have often got us further savings long after our original resevation was made. They are also the owners of this bd so we like supporting them because with out this forum I for one would not survive between my Disney vacations.

Hey Maddy --

You said that you have DU make your non-DVC reservations for you. Would you be a dear and tell me what "DU" means? I am still learning the Disney lingo! Thanks! :Pinkbounc
