Changes To Dining Plans May-June 2015

I actually could do breakfast pretty economically with the new plan. I can really only have potatoes, fruit, soy milk and meat (allergic to every thing else) so using a cs meal as 3 snack items would work great. I could do bacon, potatoes and then either a whole piece of fruit or maybe a wheat free roll and get water or coffee in my mug. Or soymilk, meat, potatoes. This is the one time that having allergies would be an advantage.

However it's pretty moot as I tend to bring breakfast since I don't like the morning crowds.

Hope I can explain this so it makes sense and someone can hopefully answer this.

At the hotel my regular QS breakfast is an omelet and a bottle of orange juice and I use the refillable mug for coffee.
Now with this changes can I get a side of eggs, bagel w/ cream cheese, fruit cup/bowel and an orange juice and my QS meal? Or does the orange juice count as one of the three items? Which personally I don't feel as if the juice should count as one of the three side/snack items but should count as the "drink" part to the meal and you can still get three other side/snack items to make up the meal/food part.
The orange juice would count as one of your three items. You cannot trade only the QS entree for three snack items; you would trade an entire QS credit for three snack credits to be used in one transaction with no additional drink or dessert.

ETA: If you were asking about those four items AND the QS meal, you can get this...for two QS credits.

If ive read these changes correctly. I could go for Quick Service at Be Our Guest, where im not tied to having a desert, could i get a Coke (would it be on free refills ?), French Onion Soup which would of been my desert and say Croque Monsieur for a single Quick Service credit? That sounds like good value.

I'm not sure you can. The trading of the dessert for a soup and salad is exclusive to the TS, although it does say a soup that is considered a 'side' at a quick service would be considered a snack item. I guess it will depend how it is listed on the menu, as an appetizer or as a side.

My understanding is that Sleepy Hollow does not accept QS credits. I've seen multiple people ask online if they can use a QS credit for a waffle sandwich and be told no, on these boards and other sites... Maybe they've changed policy before or are changing it currently, maybe it depends on the person running the register, I don't know.

If you can use a QS credit at Sleepy Hollow for a waffle sandwich meal, someone please correct me! I was planning on paying OOP at Sleepy Hollow on my trip and would love to be wrong!
We love the plain waffles and have used QS meal credits to get them. The servers we had each time checked to make sure we knew we were using a meal, not snack, credit.

Yes but it still would be a waste of a credit as those three items bought separately would be $10? A counter service lunch could be a $20 value.

It isn't clear, but I think this would also work. You could get your QS entree, trade your dessert for a side, and trade your drink for a side. Example: Pizzafari at AK. Get two of the pizza entrees w/salad and I now have 4 "extras" to play with. If I can get 3 sides of breadsticks and one cupcake, my family of four can eat and be very satisfied with just 2 credits. The same would be true at BoG. We could order two of the sandwiches w/fries, get 2 soups, an extra order of fries, and then one cupcake. My DH and one of my DSs does not do dessert, so me sharing w/my other son is enough.

I wonder if Disney knows what kind of mess they've opened up and how people are going to take advantage of it. We quit using any of the plans because we just don't eat that way. We prefer water and don't do many desserts. Trust me, if we do the QSDP the way the changes seem to say it will be, Disney will lose money on us.

But Disney would get you locked into a plan again so they ensure they get all or at least most of your dining money. And if you use 2 QS credits to feed your family of four at lunch or dinner, those extra credits may go to breakfasts and snacks where your value is less and Disney profit margins are greater. Even if some families manage to make Disney lose money with the plan (unlikely imho) that would be the exception not the rule. I really hope the changes are officially announced soon, so we can know!

I never understood why QS lunch/dinner gives you the add-on of a dessert in addition to your entree and your drink, but breakfast is just a meal and a drink. I know there's no dessert with breakfast (unless you get a chocolate cake from the bakery :) ) but I wish they provided the option of something like cereal, fruit or yoghurt with your meal & drink for example. OK you can now swap your drink for one of those, but it still makes breakfast a second-class meal on the dining plan.

Andre
You used to get a second drink with breakfast QS, it has been a few years now. Don't quote me or anything, but I want to say they stopped this right around the same time they added the free refillable mugs to the DDP.

Is there wording that states that you can substitute the drink for another side/snack? That would open up a whole new world...

I think for 41.99- Disney is still making money on 2 pizza entrees with 3 sides of breadsticks and a cupcake- plus your snack credit :D

Now- I'm DVC (and AP)- so I don't have to have a package to get the dining plan. And I normally travel with friends- so I typically have two rooms. The fact I can get the deluxe plan on just a single room and then share it between us is phenomenal. And coming from DVC, I typically cooked in the room and did tables in wonderland for my meals out. Now the dining plan is a better perceived value to me- which in turn will have me spending more because Disney will get me out of my room eating now. Win/win for us both.

Now- where I'm most curious is how they'll handle the sharing of plates on the dining plan. It's always been YMMV, even though they'd allow it more than not- but if they loosen the reigns there- and just full blown allow it- I'd be in hog heaven.

I think it will be interesting to see how this goes too, because this could accentuate the differences between Disney-owned restaurants that are sometimes incredibly flexible and non-Disney-owned restaurants like Via Napoli that tend to have more restrictions on plan usage.

I contacted Disney by email to seek some clarity, I didn't get any, lol! Here's the response:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort. We are so excited you are coming to visit us!

I completely understand how helpful it is to plan in advance. At this time, there has been no official statement from Disney that has been published and can be provided. As soon as an official statement has been released, everything will be posted on the web site, and likely on the Disney Parks Blog. I realize that this may not happen prior to your visit, and I apologize that there is no further information that we can provide in advance. Rest assured, everyone here at Walt Disney World® has been made aware that the changes are taking place and we are doing everything we can to simplify the process while you are here. With the enhancements, there are no fundamental changes to the Dining Plan program, just changes in the way that things can be used or what items can be selected, offering a more flexible experience for our Guests. As soon as you arrive, please feel free to speak to any of our Dining Cast Members at any of our restaurants or even Guest Relations and we will do our absolute best to provide you with further information.

What is the question you were asking? I sent a question through chat specifically on whether we could use dining credits for those not on the dining plan and was told yes we could do that.

The folks on the phone, online, and even the "Moms Panel" frequently provide inaccurate information. Even if they told you that, you can't really rely on it.

I am confused. If I went to Disney tomorrow, could I substitute a salad or cup of soup for a dessert at a TS restaurant? Have the changes taken place yet? We are going in Aug., what are the chances that the change will be made before that?
