Changes to Coral Reef Menu??

Can someone who has been there recently tell me if they still have the crab legs ? It's the only thing I wanted there, but I don't see it listed anymore??

Yes, I saw on AllEars that they took them off. We have been there many times but my husband was looking forward to those so we planned to go there but after finding that out we changed to LeCellier to try something new. The steak is very good at CR, I have had it several times, but then again I don't like seafood.

I'm so tired of the constant menu changes. You need to book 180 days out to even get a table somewhere, then the menu isn't the same by then. I'm especially feeling put out because this is our last night there and also our 20th wedding anniversary dinner

Crab legs were definitely off the menu last week, but we've had them in the past and didn't think there was enough meat to justify all the work it takes to get it .

We had a great meal there in spite of the crab legs being off the menu -- DH had a steak which he loved, I had Mahi Mahi which was very good, my older DDs each had Seafood Linguini that they loved and my youngest DD had a MahiMahi kids meal which she didn't really eat much of (it was her not the food -- she was saving room for dessert).

It was one of the better meals of our trip and included personalized birthday menus and a diver with a birthday sign. (Their b-days are July, August and September and my little guy's b-day is in Augsut too so we celebrated all of their b-days there). My girls were over the moon (my little guy didn't care either way as long as he had his milk)!

I agree. A vacation should not require you to make dining plans 180 days in advance...especially for Disney TS restaurants are now providing guest less. Do you plan your dinners 180 days out in advance at home?

We have only dined at TS with few exception over the past decades and we find Disney dining is really no longer a great experience as it once was...its about the rides and attractions now. Dining is now been streamlined. It use to be about attracting TS quest with quality, but now the orienation is about quantity and volume.

With larger groups of guest paying for their meals in advance you can expect Disney to streamline offerings and implementing other changes to increase their profits. This population is use to dining at CS. Disney has already packed as many tables as they can into TS restaurants. Reduce costly items each year after the plans annual cost are analized. What next? Reduce and streamline menus and vendors. Transform TS to function just like CS. Have as many of the dishes prepared in the central commissary to allow the 'TS' restuarant to serve or heat an entree quickly. This allows them to turn tables quicker.

Thanks Disney...it is now a lot easier to sell the family on a tropical vacation offering great dining.

We ate at Crystal Palace one night, then a few nights later went to Cape May Buffet - same dessert offerings - and I'll look at pictures of Hollywood and VIne, and say that's the same dessert - now I'm sure many will come to the defense of Disney, as well they should, but Disney doesnt need our defense, they need our dollars...

(also I do realize that many buffets do have 'celebrated' items, like the zebra domes at Boma, but I did notice they also have the same dessert offering of a key lime tart, or another bite size treat! and it is a treat!) (I also remember reading that the Polynesian's Kona used to have a very special dessert - it was taken off the menu, but many here would request them, and the chef would make them upon request... not sure if I remember what that dessert item was... but it was there!!)

We as a family of foodies are saddened by the menu changes as of late. Blame it on gas prices like every other economical decision these days!

I'm referring to the TS restaurants not TS buffets. TS restaurant use to use quality to entice diners, now they use dining plans to the point their focusing more on turning tables and increasing their margins based upon their metrics.

Every nicer restaurant around here change up their menu regularly. Some people actually appreciate variety. It's actually one marker of a good chef, IMO.

And no, to answer your question there were no crab legs on the menu on 8/18. What we did have was a really great, well prepared meal though.

Yes, I agree many restaurants change their menu, but I'm not "stuck" going to them. As one poster mentioned, you don't normally have to decide 6 months in advance where you want to eat. It would be nearly impossible to change an ADR at this late date

i remember having lobster tails at coral reef almost ten years ago....

doubt that will ever happen again.

We dined in Coral Reef a few weeks ago for the first time...I will not return..Unless you are seated near the tank it is a plain restaurant and over priced IMO.

A restaurant at WDW overpriced? NEVER!

In some ways, I wish they'd get rid of the dining plan so we wouldn't have to make ADRs 180 days out.

It's odd but when we were there 2 weeks ago every time after we were seated we were asked the same question with a smile. "Are you on the dining plan?" And every time we answered, "No." Which they replied with an even bigger smile, and I quote. "Great!" "Fantastic." Oh that's good." "Wonderful." What did that all mean? We've never been on any kind of dining plan, free or otherwise, but it does seem the choices decline when free dining is in sight. Or is it just me?
