A good friend just pointed this out to me, as of 6th of November

For V Australia Flights to/from the USA our baggage allowance of two pieces – totalling a maximum combined weight of 32kg (70lb) – for guests travelling in Economy Cabin Class, has been changed to two pieces at maximum 23kg (50lb) each – totalling a maximum allowance of 46kg (100lb) carried in two pieces.

Plus 1 extra piece for Economy Class Silver, Gold and Platinum Velocity members – up to a maximum of 23 kg (50lb) per piece.

So happy that I can now have 46kg, and possibly even 69kg if I can get my status to silver before I go

that was the day that we actually flew out, and they were communicating this verbally to us - that their policy would be changing soon and on our way back, we could have up to 23kg per bag.

having said that, they stated their excess baggage fees also apply per bag, so if one bag is 23.5 and the other is only 21kg, even though together they don't add up to 46kg, you would still be charged an excess fee for the applicable bag which was over the 23kg threshold.

so glad we took a portable travel scale -- we came back with a few kg spare : )

That is great news! Am hoping to fly with them next time and no doubt have a lot of extra baggage than last time. Must remember to invest in a scale though if they charge if one bag is over though...

wowsas! so I'm a gold with a family of silvers. I have a 414kg luggage allowance!! I couldn't even fit that much in our minivan!!
