so many changes what sticks out in your mind?

we've walked on the moon, color tv,Berlin wall came down,Never heard of AIDS when i was young,no more party line on our phone.
still no cure for cancer... you?

Tetracycline was invented the year I was born. Making the world safe from acne!

End of Cold War, demise of Soviet Union. Never thought either would end, in 10 lifetimes, and both came about in fairly rapid fashion as people tasted freedom, communication.

Something that enters MY mind as a mother is... when I was a kid, we could freely roam the streets without fear. We could ride bikes to another side of town and back and not fear of abduction or crime. Traffic wasn't nearly as bad. There were times when we walked our historic downtown area, but you can't do that anymore. :(

I feel that my children miss out on alot of what I took for granted due to crime and such.

Computers.
Ultrasound.
Amazing the things we have seen.
I agree with walking on the moon. that was fabulous.
So many things.

My dd has always thought it was amazing that they did not have microwaves or vcr's when I was a kid. I'm willing to bet her kids will be amazed that she didn't know what a dvd was until she was 15 yrs old, lol. She loves to joke about my 8 track tapes too.

Those things baffle my kids too.......they are also amazed when I tell them we had no cable.....only a few channels to watch

Cable, internet, end of cold war, home computers, end of innocence with first attack on our soil by foriegners.

the space race & walking on the moon
end of the cold war
home computers & Internet
cable? I remember when UHF was first available! We went from 4 channels (one too snowy to watch) to 7! ;)

On a personal level - insulin pump therapy

Cell phones everyone has one!

email !!!

Remember when atari was the latest video.

MY personal favorite Cafe late coffee shops (starbucks)

Rotary telephones
Payphones (may soon be gone)
typewriters
Cars you could repair yourself
The Central Artery in Boston
Satellite TV/Radio
The World Trade Center Towers

and...

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

Whenever I think about it, some things really stick out:

Cell phones - hardly anyone I knew had one when I was growing up, and now everyone in my family and all of my friends have one. Even DH and I have one!!

Game systems - my, how they have come along. I have been wanting to play Atari for quite some time as that is what I grew up playing. Then Nintendo came out and it has only gotten better.

Computers - remember the Commodore 64? Had one of those growing up and thought it was the best - my how computers have evolved.

Record players - my how I miss my record player. I had a huge collection of 45's that I would play. I would save my money just to buy a favorite song and then play the snot out of it. I think my mom still has the Smurfs Christmas on record...

Refrigerators without ice/water dispencers - amazing how now refrigerators come with TV's - gimme a break.

I could go on and on. I do notice that alot of kids are indoors more than outside. I was outside all of the time - playing with friends, riding a bike or exploring.
