There are two tropical storms in the Caribbean right now and I was curious for anyone currently on the cruise, are they still going to all the stops or are they doing something to avoid the storms (like staying out to sea)? Also, can you feel the waves, etc.?

I just read that parts of the Keys down to Key West are being evacuated. I'm sure it is effecting the Western Cruise right now.
We were on a very rough Disney Cruise in March and boy was I seasick! So to answer your question, YES, you can feel the waves!!
Does anyone know if there is a web site that tracks changes in the cruise route?

I'd be very interested in replies to this thread over the coming weeks. We will be on the 9/16 Wonder, so any info. from current cruisers would be appreciated... :D

Thanks!

They are currently on the Eastern.

We are in Vero Beach right now and the governor issued a State of Emergency for the state of Florida about an hour ago. Not sure yet what we are going to do. Apparently they figure Bonnie may hit Orlando and Charley will come up over us here.

What each ship does is up to the captain, and can change on an hourly basis--or more frequently if needed. IF Port Canaveral becomes inaccessible, DCL can use a port near Tampa as an alternative. All ports of call are subject to change for safety reasons....or as one captain said on the PA system, "I am fully aware of the guest services aspects of my decisions, however, only a fool would steer a ship into a hurricane and I am no fool!" It had to be one of the better lines I've ever heard.

I've been on Easterns that became modified Westerns, etc. One of the hazzards of travel during hurricane season.

Debbie H,

Good luck to you and your family. I hope Bonnie leaves you alone. Hurricanes don't get us up here in CT but I've seen the damage.

This was a local story about 2 hours ago:

______________________________

Two Royal Caribbean ships have modified their itineraries. The Majesty of the Seas will not stop in Key West Thursday, but will instead make a port call in Freeport, Bahamas. The Rapsody of the Seas will go to Costa Maya, Mexico on Thursday instead of the Cayman Islands.

Other ships revising their itineraries include the Carnival Triumph, Carnival Conquest and Paradise.

Carnival Princess is scheduled to arrive in Port Everglades Saturday and should not have to change plans.

Those with cruises planned in the Caribbean over the next few days are encouraged to call their cruise line for updates.

The cruise lines always retain the right to cancel or change itineraries; we once skipped a port on RC because of political unrest.

KSHABARE-- Oh yes they do. Not very often though, the last big hurricane to come to CT was 20 years ago and it did a lot of damage. We had no power in Stamford for 4 days with many trees down.

Bonnie is going to hit the panhandle ( Tallahassee) and Hurricane Charley will most likely hit central Florida . We live where Charley may hit so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

We are due to fly into Tallahassee tomorrow around 11:45 am. I wish both of us luck!

for ALL of us!!! Safe trips for those around Bonnie and Charley! Calm seas for those of us cruisn' in the near future!! ::MickeyMo

Guess the adventurer in me wouldn't in the least be upset if changes had to be made!!! :sunny: Not that I'm ASKING for a hurricane LOL!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I think you have to be on the ship either an hour or and an hour and a half before the scheduled departure time.... have a nice cruise :)

How could they use the Tampa port? It seems like it would take too long for the cruise to go from the east cost of Florida to the west cost.

Jfs9900 that would be under the assumption that they knew ahead of time that they would not be able to get into Port Canaveral. They have had a situation in the past where they could not get into Port Canaveral and ended up in Ft Lauderdale where they bussed everyone back and forth for the departing and arriving guests. Not sure that DCL would be able to use the Port of Tampa though as an alternative. Is it short enough to go under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge? I know that the Carnival Sensation had to be modified to fit under the bridge (it actually hit it the first time through). Most of the newer ships are to tall for Tampa. (I could be wrong though it was just a thought).

We also we just thinking that Tampa wouldnt be a possibility, as the ship is on the Eastern right now. Hope you guys will keep us Brits updated regarding the Magic, as our DD wont be calling home until she has a lunch off from working in Palo in 9days' time. Thanks folks.

Just a thought.............any of you Connect. folks anywhere near Summer Camp Wah-Nee? Our DS is working there right now. Nat:Pinkbounc
