Changes at the Boardwalk Bakery...

DH and I stopped into the bakery last week for breakfast, and half the items that used to be on the menu were missing.

No more:
Chocolate and Vanilla pretzels
Crumb Cake
Fresh Made Donuts

I was crushed. The CM said the a new pastry chef was assigned to the Boardwark. All of the bakery items I enjoyed are now gone, and they were replaced by other "fancy" desserts.

The fresh donuts were replaced by Krispy Kreme. Now don't get me wrong... Krispy Kreme donuts are OK... just not at the BW bakery!

Where did the previous chef go? I miss him and his creations... (Going off to sulk a little more now)

Please tell me its not so about the Pretzels?? I loved those things and would make a trip over to the bakery from Epcot just to get one. Granted it was usually on the way to Big River Grille but I always loved them.

Goofyfreek - I wish I was kidding but I'm not. The CM there talked to us quite a while and said how unhappy a lot of the guests are. She said the chef moved somewhere else onsite, but unfortunately didn't know where. I don't know who to contact.

Ok I understand them getting a new chef, but that doesnt mean he gets to change everything that has been in place for years. We go in 2 weeks, I hope they fix it before then. Or I will have that name and number for you to contact as well.

It doesn't sound like it is going to be fixed. The CM acted like the changes have been in place for awhile. I'm just surprised I hadn't heard about it here.

actually, new chefs do have the option to do just that.

My best guess they reviewed what sold the best and cut back on what didn't sell that well.

For every person who loves the old doughnuts, there are probably 3-4 times as many who adore KK donuts (not me)

But the CM hinted that the pretzels were a top seller. I just want to know where to find them on property. I went through serious withdrawal last week. LOL!

You can also get the pretzels back by Ariels Grotto at MK. If they are open or better yet if they still have any. I have tried like 5 time and still have not been able to get one from this place.

actually, new chefs do have the option to do just that.

I know a WDW Chef very well. sometimes they have the option as a new chef and sometimes they don't.
I'm surprsied the pretzels were cut out. Looks like everyone was always coming out of there with one. As for teh Krispy Kreme, it's probably part of some deal @@

It was more like a cookie in the shape of a pretzel. They were very good.

I noticed that this summer. I went in wanting one (or 2, LOL) of their awesome donuts and they didnt have them. What I ended up getting I thought was KK, but wasn't sure. I used to think their vanilla frosted and choclate frosted donuts were the best donuts I have ever had, but, I guess they are no more.

Indeed, new chefs often have that option; and sometimes there is no choice: Some items are chef's specialties, and so they'll go along with the chef.

I was disappointed when a few years ago they stopped making the chocolate almond bear claws. Does anyone remember these? They were so good and you had to get them early in the day because they would sell out. I really miss them and have not found them anywhere else. Does the bakery still sell bagels and breakfast sandwiches?

Oh this is too bad! I loved the fresh made donuts at the Boardwalk Bakery - DH and I would walk over there at least two to three times a week just to have a couple for breakfast.

Yeccch...Krispy Kremes...I don't go to a bakery that's selling freshly made items to buy some other store's junk.

Bummer news. Guess I'll just have to go have tonga toast or mickey waffles every day now.

We just got back last week and my wife and I are also very disappointed about the changes. The cast members were asking us to write letters to the management team (they were even willing to provide pen and paper for us). The loss of those nice donut rings, cinnamon yummies and those great cinnamon rolls (the new one's are terrible) is bad news. Even the coffee cake loaf is about half the size that it used to be. We used to stop in the bakery even morning when we stay at BWV...on this trip we only made two stops in nine days. We'll be back again in about two weeks and won't even bother.
