Latest news tonight is that the CEO and CFO of Competitor Group (the company that owns the Rock n Roll race series) have been fired. With any luck, this is the beginning of the end for the company, and the local races they've bought up recently will go back to being for the runners instead of for the profits.

I don't really know anything about the Rock n Roll races. What are the biggest complaints about them?

I have run some of the Competitor races and other then the cost (both for the race and charging extra for everything like runner tracking) don't have any complaints. They brought a new race to my city without having to take over the locally run races which I think is the better business model.

I really hope the new management learns to not make race announcements and open registration before they have their dates nailed down. Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Lexington, San Antonio, and probably more have been either cancelled or moved after a lot of people signed up.

I believe coach has some information about the workings of Competitor. Maybe he can shed some light on future plans for Competitor?

Other than saying the RnR brand was once a strong runner's race brand and now it's a hold onto your wallet brand I won't say too much. I am happy that there is a turn over but with a company owned by venture capitalists looking at the next quarter's profits I do not expect much in the way of change.

The old brand (pre-competitor) was amazing. It was all about the runner with lots of aid stations and entertainment. I ran a couple courses that were very narrow and never felt overcrowded (in the old regime). In fact, I believe here at Disney the runner's owe lots to the old RnR folks. We now have smaller waves (although not as small as the RnR) and much more course entertainment.

Wow. I am glad to hear it. If they ever stop the practice of busing people along the course to help them catch up, I might consider running one of their races again.

I ran RnR St Pete last year which I overall enjoyed even though it was one of their 'smaller' races- Didnt think it lived up to the 'hype' of what I had heard of the races though (but can understand that running RnR Vegas or Nashville would have a lot more going for it than St Pete...)

They cancelled it for this year so didnt have to decide to re-run it.. If they brought it back to my area I'd consider it again..

My thoughts exactly. I will say that some of the older RnR races are still runner-focused these days, ones like Virginia Beach, San Diego, and Phoenix. Many of the others, sadly, are not.

Other than those you mentioned, which others seem to be well run? How was the second year of Vegas? Anyone know? I would love to make a race - cation out of running the strip at night (I love night runs). I don't really care if they bus people ahead on the course, I'm just there to have fun and experience something different w other runners.

I ran both Seattle and Portland last year (2012) and thought they were well run. I'm signed up for the inaugural RNR Vancouver in 2014.

I've heard mixed reports from my running friends about Vegas. Some thought it was poorly run, while others had a better experience. I know New Orleans gets good reviews, as does Edinburgh. I'd stay away from Madrid, though. They didn't do a very good job with that one.

I ran the New Orleans one last year and thought it was great. I ran the half and My friends ran the full, and we all had a great time. New Orleans is a fantastic city, and makes for a great run-cation. I want to head back there again in the next few years and do the full myself.

I've run Seattle and Portland the last two years and liked them as well. I would never do the full marathon again in Seattle (wasn't a fan of the course), but am signed up for the half for next year. The Portland race is perhaps my favorite, though that might be because I love the course, and the weather has been perfectly cloudy the last few years. I ran the LA one last year, as well, and that one was fun because so many people were in costume, since it was right before Halloween. I ran the Dallas one this year, and it wasn't that memorable, to be honest, other than it was shockingly cold. I liked how the last bit of the race looped through the park of the finish area, because it made it easy for our friends to wait for us and cheer us on.

The Vegas one has been controversial, as far as I understand. My friends ran it two years ago, I think, the year people got sick from the water, and didn't like it. I think it was in the day at the time. I ran it last year, at night, and enjoyed it for the most part, though there were a few dead miles where we were running through residential neighborhoods where they couldn't blast music.

I never realized they bused people to further up on the course if they fell behind. Do they still get a official finish time? It doesn't really effect me, because when I'm running, I'm racing against myself, but It just seems kind of weird that they wouldn't just do what Disney does, and bus to the finish area.
