I just switched from POFQ to AKL, but I am having second thoughts. Is AKL too far from everything? (we have stayed there once before and ds remembers very long bus rides) Is it worth the $300 difference for the week? Thanks

I am not much help as I am debating resorts now too :goodvibes

But the things someone pointed out to me was to consider which parks you will be at and dinners you will be at as well. I love the look of AKL but it is pretty far from MK where we spend a lot of time so we took it off the list for now.

Good luck

Either one you stay at, you're going to have to take a bus to the parks. (does that help?) :confused3 I've never stayed at AKL, but it looks amazing!! I've stayed at POR and loved it. The one huge benefit that POR/FQ has is the boat to DTD. (in my opinion) It's an awesome little perk when you want something fun to do at night. I remember that the buses were generally ALWAYS packed and we waited alot for buses. So I don't think you're going to have one better than the other in the bus dept.

Now, from what it looks like AKL has PLENTY of perks. What does your gut tell you? For me, it's a feeling I get when I am looking at the pictures and you just kind of feel like "home", or you feel like "this is a really cool new adventure". Your week probably won't be ruined by trying AKL, and you might surprise yourself and fall in love!!

I hope you have a great trip!!! :thumbsup2

AKL is a beautiful resort with nice amenities. The grounds are beautiful and you can go to the pool at Kidani, too. As stated already, you will be on a bus no matter what, unless you drive, so it's not that much longer a bus ride. It is a matter of personal taste, we like the larger rooms, the peaceful setting, and plan for an extra 5 minutes on the bus.

We've stayed at Kidani twice and never had a problem waiting for busses. I also think some people make more of the distance to be traveled to the parks than is the reality. Good luck.

We've put off staying at AKL for the reason you noted above & we drive to WDW. We like POR because if we want to get to Downtown Disney it's just a short drive. :drive:

Stayed at AKL and the buses are really not a big deal at all. The resort is amazing.

We love AKL. Both resorts are great. But if you stay at AKL, build in some resort time to enjoy it ::yes::

I love both resorts! AKL is amazing, and I know people always say that it's too far away from everything, but honestly, I've never really noticed or cared. Really, a few extra minutes of driving/bus time is not that big of a deal to me when I spend my whole day at the Parks.

Is the distance really that much of a difference? We have stayed at almost every resort, staying at AKL this September. The past two years stayed at Art of animation and CBR.. The bus rides did not seem so bad at all from those locations.. AKL doesn't look to far off?? Unless you are on the monerail they all are a little bus ride :)

LOVE AKL!

We stayed there and it was great. We enjoyed Boma, Jiko and all the animals. The bus area is nice and shaded and even had a CM to keep the kids entertained.

Would love to go back, but we have decided that there are lots of resorts to explore.

For us it depends on the age of the kids. We have stayed at AKL and it is a great place to stay, but we felt like it was way out there and now prefer monorail resorts, especially with young (preschool) age children.

I've stayed at both and we used a rental car so I can't help you with the long bus rides, but I LOVED AKL. We had a nice savannah view room we enjoyed and the main lodge was just beautiful.

It would be great if they would build a monorail that would go to all the resorts. I mean they have tons of money, why not :rotfl:

We did both, loved both, but id choose fq over ak if i was interested in adult night life with the piano bar close at por and dtd so close too.

We did savannah view at kidani, was amazing though.

Someone once posted that it would cost a Million dollars per foot to expand the monorail. Not sure if that's accurate, but it was on the internet, so it must be true! :rotfl2:

Last time you were at AKL, did you use the amenities? Did you spend time at the resort, go swimming, watch the animals, listen to the African stories, dine at the restaurants? If you did not or none of that was significant then I suggest FQ is you better option.

WOW:scared1: Im sure they could at least do animal kingdom :rotfl: since it is a deluxe !

We just stayed at KV in October, loved it! If you have a Savannah View, even better! The bus rides were a little further than we were used to, but we were there for 8 nights, so it was okay! We probably won't stay again because we try to do something new each time, but it was wonderful! And I agree with the person that posted that people make too much of the bus ride...I'd say an extra 5-10 minutes at most, nothing to much to fret about :-)
