Change out points but keep reservations?

I made a reservation for July using banked points that I'll need to cancel. I also made a reservation in May using current UY points. When I cancel the July reservation, can I change the points out of the May reservation to use the banked points instead of current UY points? Does the system automatically do that? Or do I need to call in to request that/keep the May reservation (or is it not even possible to do?). Thanks!

You can use the modify tool online to accomplish this after you've cancelled the July reservation. When you go to modify the May reservation, pick the same dates and then it will go to the contract screen. The system is designed to use banked points first so it will swap those out for the current points in the reservation. Once you proceed through the booking, check your points to make sure.

We do it all the time and it is easy. Just be sure that the contract with the banked points is checked if you have more than one.

There is a limitation to be aware of. If that May reservation was made during the 11-month reservation window then you will be able to modify it online to use the banked points and take out an equal number of current use year points only if those banked points are for the same DVC owned resort as the ones already in the May reservation.
