Bonine has the exact same active ingredient as the Less Drowsy Formula for Dramamine (both use 25mg or Meclizine hydrochloride).
When ever I've used the Less Drowsy Formula, I would still find my self falling asleep during things like watching movies while on-board. When I asked my doctor about another alternative that wouldn't make me even that drowsy, he directed me to the perscribed patches.
I found that the patches did indeed made me feel even less drowsy than the Less Drowsy Formula for Dramamine. However, they area also a more powerful drug. You're limited to wearing them for 72 hours at a time, and even then you can experience side-effects. I don't think I ever wore one for more than 2 1/2 days and never saw a reaction. DW wore one of hers for the full 72 hours (somethink of a waste because the last 8 hours was in bed sleeping). When she woke up, she realized she had problems focusing on things close-up (for example, she couldn't read a menu). But we soon realized that the drug apparently caused her eyes to dialate, and that tied to strong prescription eye-glasses was causing the focusing problem. Another night's sleep cleared it right up.
Bottom line... talk to your doctor.
