Hi all, any expereince in this one? I have gotten 2 different answers from MS.

Big family debate about who is coming. If we all go we need a 2 bedroom, but if my brother and his wife cancel (they have done this before) we only need a one bedroom.

Want to reserve a 2 bedroom (Studio/1 Bedroom Combo), if BIL and SIL cancel I wanted to drop the studio and keep the 1 bedroom. Will have a better idea 5 to 7 months out.

It seems complicated but I think this is a good deal because I could cancel and then someone else can book the studio at 7 months out.

One CM told me no problems, in fact this is where I got the idea from. The other CM told me I would have to cancel the eintire reservation and take my chances that a 1 bedroom is available. Somthing I do not want to do since I am going in December.:confused3

Another option I guess would be to book a studio separately, I am assuming this would be more points but need to check.

These are just assumptions as I don't have any firsthand experience with this. I'd be sure to reserve and specify a 2 bedroom lock out, this way me can maintain the 1 bedroom part of lock-out.

Second, if you cancel the studio inside of 30 days your points will go into a holding account.

I've always heard it's a cancel and rebook, which would be a problem if there's a waitlist.

Even though it's more points, you might be better off booking a 1 bedroom and studio separate.

Usually the way MS will treat this situation is to cancel the 2BR and rebook the 1BR. You have reserved a 2BR villa - not a 1BR abd studio and if there is a waitlist for 1BR or 2BRs when your villa is cancelled, you may not be able to rebook the 1BR. You would not really be simply cancelling the "studio". In the past a few members have had a friendly MS rep who was willing/able to do what you are asking, but you should be prepared for the possibility that you could lose the 2BR and not be able to get the 1BR - so make sure what will happen before allowing MS to change you present reservation.

If you really want to be safe you should reserve a 1BR and a Studio (as 2 different reservations) and then would be able to cancel either and keep the other if desired.

Good luck! :)

Do you have enough points to keep the 2 bedroom reservation and reserve a 1 bedroom in addition to that now? If so, you can just cancel the one you don't need when your brother's plans are firm.

Hope it all works out for you.

I haven't "downgraded" before but have done several "upgrades" from 1BR to 2BR. I've never had a problem doing that and they simply modify the existing reservation keeping the original reservation number.

It may be more of a laborious process going backwards since you have essentially reserved a 1BR + a studio and I'm not sure they can break off the studio without having to dump the entire ressie.

I would be interested to know what you find out and how they handle that situation so please keep us informed

Thanks for all the advice. I booked a separate Studio for now. Only trick is it is at SSR and I am at AKV. Don't have enough points to get it at AKV. Maybe I can switch at the 7 month mark.

Pretty sure he is going to cancel but if he does this way I can either cancel or rent the second reservation.
