Change in SM refurb dates might mean change in vacation dates?

We had planned on being in DLR at the end of June. With the new refurb dates for Space Mountain it looks like it won't be opening until July 3rd. Here's my question......do we change our dates to catch SM when it reopens and finish our trip on the 3rd, or push the trip farther into July or August in order to avoid the July 4th crowds?

Thanks for your help!!!

It really depends on the person. If it were me and I had schedule flexibility I would reschedule to the last half of July to avoid any of this. In fact that is when we are going and it is for this very reason.

I already booked my flight for the end of June based on the closure schedule at the time so I'm obviously disappointed they moved Space Mountain back to July 3rd. I would certainly like to know what the heck they are doing that they now need 6 extra days to fix it during the start of the prime time of the summer.

Oh well, no deal breaker for me. My kids are older and are looking forward to SFMM as much as DL. If things are too bad at DL we'll just take a 1/2 day off and go ride some additional coasters at KBF.

I generally agree with HydroGuy that if you have flexibility and if Space is a priority for you, I would move the trip further back in the summer to avoid the July 4th crowds.

That being said, I would also pick some type of cut-off metric. With the amount of re-scheduling in the rehab calendar, there is no guarantee that the currently listed dates will be the actual dates. You could change your vacation plans and the next day Disneyland could post new Space rehab dates that coincide with your new vacation dates.

Could. But I doubt it very seriously in July and August. June was a surprise for sure. But I can't see it in the middle of summer.

But as we are all seeing, lots of unusual things are happening at DLR regarding refurbs. I am playing the odds here. :)

We're thinking that if we do change dates, we'll move it to later in July. Seeing them change the refurb for SM really took us by surprise, but I don't think they'll mess with July or August.

Last year, I would have completely agreed with you that there is little to no chance that Space would be down during the summer (Memorial day to Labor day). This year...not as sure...I think it's less likely that Space will be down during summer, but I'm not quite willing to rule anything out! In truth, I'm not quite willing to believe anything on the rehab calendar until the ride actually closes for the rehab!
