I currently have room only ressie for ASMU Fam Suites for Jan 1-8th. Now, unfortuantly i have not been able to add any kind of discount to that rate so i'm paying the rack rate of $207.92 (inc tax). The closer it gets to the dates, the more worried I am that I will not get a discount. If I don't get a FL. Res rate when they come out, then i was thinking of changing to a MYW Pkg. I wanted to know if i would have to cancel my original ressie and release my room and then have CRO rebook it as a MYW Pkg? I'm just scared that if i have to do it like that isn't there a chance that someone else could get my room once it's released back in the system? I mean, is that how they do it when someone wants to upgrade to a Pkg?? That's the one thing that keeps me from actually doing it. I called in April 07 for that room. So, i'd really hate to loose it!! Any suggestions/advice?

You can call & tell them that you would like to MODIFY your room only ressie to a package. I had the same situation for our upcoming trip in November. I had a room only ressie at POR & when the Visa Package deals came out I called & told them I wanted to Modify & they did it with no problem. I did however have to give them the difference in my deposit. If it helps you to feel better when you call ask them if this is the case before they do anything! Let me know how you make out:coffee:

Well thank you for the advice/info!! What they told me when i called yesterday is that if i want to upgrade to a pkg, i'd have to cancel my ressie and then rebook as a pkg. Although, there's a chance that my room could be reserved by someone else when it's released back into public. I don't know what to do, i'm just trying to get some kind of discount on my room. There is no more suites available during my dates so he couldn't give me a quote on that. I don't know?

Call the Disney Travel Company and just act like you're making a new reservation. They will give you a totally new reservation number, etc. Then call and cancel the old reservation after you have everything set the way you want. I just did this today. I have a room booked at WL under the AP code and called about a package to see which was the better deal. They let me put the package on hold, I hung up and did the math- about 20 minutes worth, then called them back and told them to release the Visa deal because I'd keep what I have.

We too just booked WL at AP yesterday. So you found that AP was still better than the package in your case? I have been wondering, but have been too lazy to do the 20 mins of math. :lmao:

OK, My sister & myself are going in May to the ASMU "room only" ressie (AAA discount) preferred room. I called Disney just a few minutes ago & asked them if I wanted to upgrade to a package could I do so without having to cancel anything because I did not want to take a chance of lossing the preferred room. The CM told me no problem I could just MODIFY my existing room only to a package without cancelling anything. If you want call back again, sometimes it just depends the CM you happen to get. When you call, at the beginning when they give you the options do not hit the option about if this call is for a package, hit the #2 option for no! When you hear the next set of options I believe it was the #2 option also it is to Modify your existing reservation! Hit that option, hopefully the CM will be able to help you. Do you want to add dining or were you looking to get the MYW with the free upgraded tickets only? Hope this helps:)

Tinkerbellmagic- yes for my purposes I wanted to stick with the AP. The ticket upgrade was more expensive now because me and my kids already have AP's, I just have to buy one 5 day base ticket the way things stand. I realize that I'd have (3) one day hoppers to upgrade later, but I'd rather not fork out the money right now. Here's how I figured:

WL woods view 5 nights with AP - 1125.00 including tax, then my sisters 5 day base ticket for $228.00 = $1353

WL woods view 5 nights with Visa Discount and 3 adults 1 child one day hoppers -$1493.46
upgrading sisters to a 5 day hopper $108.00 = $1601.46

Difference of $248.46 in favor of my AP rate
The value of my 3 leftover hoppers would be $349.47

I also like the more favorable change/cancellation policy of the room only reservation.

I also tried to figure the dining plan, but the extra cost left me about $619 to eat on for 4 1/2 days and I am thinking I'll get a DDE card instead. Just not that great a deal without the tip included anymore.

Am I missing anything?

Looks like you were very thorough. Great job figuring it all out too. I agree with you on the more favorable cancellation policy with the AP/room only. :)

I guess i'll try that next. Now i was told that none of the current pkg's are available with the family suites??? I don't know what to do now? :confused3
It kind of sucks that if i want to get a discount of some kind i have to switch to two connecting rooms. The CM told me that i cannnot upgrade to a pkg with the family suites?? Is that true, or did i just get a CM who didn't know??:confused3 :confused3

The room types, resorts, and even the extra perks, vary from package to package, and then on availability. So it may be that no package you are allowed to book has the suites available for anything other than rack rate. It is a possibility.
You may want to look on line and see if availability is there that way.
That happened to me the other night. Booking on line a moderate resort was available, where it was not by calling in. (Other than a $$$ suite at a mod. which I did not need.)

Well it looks like i'm stuck with the rack rate unlesss i want to change rooms. Now, the CM just told me that family suites are not part of the FL res or AAA discount's that were just released? She also said that 99% of the time, the suties are never discounted..which sucks for me, but i really want to stay in one, so i guess i'm going to have to pay the 207.00 per night? :confused3
O-Well, at least i'll be at WDW!!!
