Change from POR to WL?

We have a reservation for POR very very soon thing is I'm very tempted by WL.

We have 2 children aged 8 & 11 - which of the 2 resorts would you recommend?

Is the transport from the resort good? We will be having a car but would like to use busses/boats to most parks.

I don't know what to do!!!

I've never stayed at WL, but know lots of people with kids the same age as yours who absolutely LOVE WL. There is a water launch to MK ( so much fun!) and a water launch to Ft Wilderness in case you have dinner res there...
And you could take the water launch to the MK and then take a monorail from there.
We stayed at AKL and the buses were fine, no problems, no complaints.

I agree with Ang1e. The bus to AK is a long ride but we take the boat or monorail everywhere else. The pool is great for kids. Stayed at POR once and it was fine but you can't beat not having to walk to the food court for a Coke.

I love POR, but I love the WL a whole lot more. Given the choice I'd take the WL.

I have to say, POR is a wonderful resort. The theming is incredible, the pools are nice, there are great recreation options including a nice playground for the kids, the boat to DTD is nice, nice restaurant, great food court.......there is a lot to like. IMHO it is the best of all the moderate resorts.

That being said, the WL is just more of a deluxe experience. The rooms are nicer, with indoor corridors off an incredible lobby. The theming is just incredible. The grounds are beautiful, including the water falls leading to the main pool and the guyser, the pools are wonderful, a nice playground on the beach, activities for the kids......it is great. While you do have nicer restaurants, the one thing you don't have is an elaborate food court. Roaring Forks is decent for a quick bite, but it is nothing like the food court at POR and I have friends who prefer the moderate resorts just for that reason. As for transportation, the boat to the MK is wonderful. Having direct access to a park like that is great. Can't comment on the busses, as we always drive everywhere except the MK when we stay at the WL. Not that the transportation is bad, we just aren't big fans of buses.

All in all, we have found the WL to be the most relaxing resort on property. You have a great location, yet the atmosphere and theming make you feel like you are a million miles away. So, while POR is great, I have to go with the WL.

Well thank you all for your replies. I've rang Virgin who we've booked the package through and the decision's been made for me - there's no availability at WL

I'd got myself all excited and was planning on booking it as a surprise for DH & the children and not telling them until we were driving up to it!

Actually, there IS availability but we'd have to upgrade to a courtyard room and I can't really justify the extra £££££'s it will cost us. An extra £1015.00 (about $1745.00) . It's too much extra to pay for a room that hopefully we won't be in very much because we'll be doing lots of other things.

Again, thankyou all for your responses. Maybe next time - because there WILL be a next time

You are still going to have a wonderful holiday!!!!! You'll love POR and be sure to check out the suggestions on the board for location requests. Some prefer AB (it's very rustic, but next to be renovated) and Riverside has beautiful gardens, recently renovated rooms etc. Check out the map and photos :

You and your kids will love POR. We normally stay at POR or POFQ, but got a great deal at WL last autumn. It was very nice and we enjoyed it, but my DD (9 at the time) said POR is better for kids. She likes the playground and the pool at POR much better. She also enjoys the boat ride to Downtown Disney. (Guess where we're staying in January.)

There is lots to do at POR and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ohh, Sandi, that's so sweet that your DD likes POR better and enjoy the boat to DTD - I'd forgotten all about the boat. I like it too ;o)
