Change 2-day park hopper to 3-day PH?

I'm thinking of buying a 2-day park hopper for our upcoming trip to CA. Since we are renting a house on the beach, I'm planning to do more haning out at the beach. But we can't NOT to Disney. I'm thinking a 2-day PH will give us our Disney fix without taking away too much time from the beach. DH thinks we need 3-day PH. My question is, if we buy the 2-day PH, can we upgrade it to a 3-day PH at the park if we decide to do so? Is the price the same difference as to what I'd get online now (about $30 difference)? Thanks for your help.

You can upgrade, and you might get lucky, but if I were you I would expect (and plan for) the upgrade cost to be the difference between the current-at-the-time-of-upgrade GATE cost of a 3 day ticket and the price you paid for your 2 day.

If you buy a 3 day now, then you know you can take advantage of Magic Morning with that ticket...which gives you even more bang for your 3 day buck, by the way....
