Chances that rooms will open up?

We are taking a last minute trip, and currently there are no value or moderate rooms available for Thursday feb 7- Saturday feb 9. I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with rooms opening up in the last week or so? I'm a little surprised at the lack of rooms.

Since it’s after the “free” 30 day cancellation window your chances are pretty slim. But keep refreshing you never know. Some people still have to cancel and take the 200 dollar hit and people may also change rooms/resorts. Make sure you have a backup hotel though!

That’s smack dab in the middle of cheerleading dancing or similar and those groups fill up the values and moderates.

The values for that week were already booked up when we booked our rooms back in July (we picked the week before based on availability)! You could try a third party travel website to see if they have any availability.

You need to book each night separately. Different moderate and value resorts. Check several times a day. As you check you should, or might, be able to add nights at the value of your choice.

I would try calling rather than using you computer. I had the same problem several years ago when we decided to visit for a couple of days as part of a wedding destination trip. They were booked solid until I called and got a room right away.

Call. The new orphan room prevention program will also prevent short stays from finding open rooms, even though there are plenty of them actually available.

You've neglected to include the room only cancelations. They've got till 5 days out

Good call and funny since that's what I book as an AP : ). Keep checking OP!

Thanks - I did not know about the "orphan room", I'll be calling a couple times a day. I did book the Springhill suites in Disney springs for the two nights I don't have just in case.

Orphan rooms, one night stay are sometimes available

The new system is designed to limit the number of orphan rooms. Rooms that are already "orphaned" will show up online. One night stays show up online all the time. My understanding is the CM we call have access the same inventory we see online. Those CM can check with guest services if you want to add or drop a night to an existing reservation.

But 2 nights may not. PP wants 2 nights, not 1 and why make a bunch of singles when you can call and get CM to book it for you. The CM can see these. Just not the first level CM. You may need to escalate the request

Now I get it. I called and CM could only see what I could see, it did not occur to me to escalate my request. Luckily a few days later my dates were available online for what I wanted to book (was trying to add a night). -I'm allergic to rack rate- The CMs on the phone were patient and helpful. I wish the OP luck.

As mentioned, there is a national high school cheerleading competition that is taking place during that time. All the values are available to them, as well as CBR and CSR. My sister has a friend who is going and they couldn't get one of these Disney rooms, everything was sold out. They are staying at a hotel in the DS area. I bet other cheer families are choosing to stay at Disney, but at other resorts. Thus eating up room inventory.

Or...another way around the orphan room problem is to look for a longer stay ....I had booked a 7 night stay during that time and called yesterday to just stay 2 weekend nights. When I was trying for that weekend nothing showed for 2 nights but a pass holder discount showed for 7 nights. I called yesterday and guest services changed it to just the weekend...unfortunately the weekend rates are still rack rate even with the AP discount....but that's what they were from the beginning, the good news is that the weekday AP prices for the AS'S during the first part of February are as low as $75 a night.

I was able to get the last two nights at POR this morning. I will keep trying to get all nights at one resort, but at least we are on site for the entire trip! One question, what does "escalating the request" mean? You ask for a supervisor or something?

You ask the CM to check with guest services and see if anything can be done to reduce, or eliminate, the need to switch resorts.
If that doesn't work ask again when you check in.
