Chances of1 BR at OKW going to 5 occupants?

Just looking at squar footage of the resort rooms, and BLT and AKV have the 1 BR units with occupancy of 5 with the chair pull-out bed. Now they are not really any bigger squar foot wise than the rest of the resorts and about 200 sq ft small than OKW. So my question is do you think we will start to see the other resorts putting in the chair sleeper to up the occupancy to 5 for the 1 BR units?

OKW 1 bedrooms have added the sleeper chairs, but I would assume official occupany will remain at 4 until at least next year, as the rehab has only just completed, or will be completed shortly. They are allowing 5, even with official occupancy set at 4. They are not supplying additional towels, though.

The other onsite resorts, like BCV and BWV would be a tight squeeze because of the specific room layouts, and as Deb suggests, may not be able to accomodate a sleeper chair in addition to the sleeper sofa.

I guess it depends upon how we qualify "official." DVC has been allowing 5 guests of any age in ANY One Bedroom (Except AKV value) for at least 4-5 years now.

Will they amend the POS to change the occupancy from 4 to 5? Personally I doubt it.

But the policy they've been enforcing for several years now is about as official as you can get.

If you look at the 2011-12 planner for OKW 1 bedroom it does say it sleeps 5 already....did you guys miss this?

Yes Deb & Bill, according to Disney there is enough room!

(All sleep up to 4, most sleep up to 5)

It's a done deal. No more guessing on this one.

And just so you guys are up to date -- the two bedroom now says:

(All sleep up to 8, most sleep up to 9)

I figured it's worded this way because they were still refurbishing when the planner was printed.

:thumbsup2

The OP asked about the other DVC resorts. They don't have enough room for a sleeper chair. I know OKW already has added the chair.

Thanks everyone for the input. For my family 2 adults 3 children it saves us some points to just stay in a 1 BR if it just the family going. Looking at staying at OKW end of Nov. Thanks again.

I was commenting on the title of this thread. That's what I thought you were commenting on too.

Nope, I was responding to this question:

I agree, I don't ever see a sleeper chair at BWV, VWL or BCV -- never stayed at SSR, so can't comment there.

SSR does not seem larger than BWV, so I do not think any other resort could be converted to adding a sleeper chair.

This is very interesting. Since they bolted the little rolling chests (where they used to keep the pak-n-play cribs) shut, they're pretty useless. I wonder if they removed the chests, would there be enough room for the sleeper chair at the other resorts?

no the sleeper chair is big. it is in the livingroom in the other places.

it could not fit in any of the bedroom (okay maybe OKW if they removed the chair and ottman)

The resorts in question seem to be BCV, BWV, SSR and VWL. All have the same general layout and it does not appear that the rooms are wide enough to support the addition of a twin sleeper chair.

When open, the sleeper chair would have to fit between the TV armoire and the foot of the queen sofabed. I haven't taken any measurements but there just doesn't seem to be enough space there.

The one that that MAY work at some resorts would be installing a Murphy Bed similar to those at the Grand Californian and Aulani. The Murphy Bed would essentially replace the armoire so it would seem to occupy less floor space when folded down.

Structurally I have no idea if the resorts are equipped to handle this modification but it seems reasonable.

This sort of a mod may not be possible at BWV and VWL since the entry/connecting door to the second bedroom is located next to the living room TV. I don't think there is enough wall space to mount the Murphy Bed.

But at BCV and SSR the connecting door was moved near the front entry to the room. That entire wall is available for potentially mounting a Murphy Bed.

I don't see how there would be enough room to lower a Murphy bed where the Armoire/tv cabinet is located if the sleeper sofa is opened up.
