Chances of getting into room by 4pm

We'll be checking into ASMu on a Saturday in December 7th. We are flying in the day before and will probably get to the resort no later than noon. What are the chances of getting our room before or around 4pm. I'm worried they won't be able to get us in to the room until after 4pm being that Rise of the Resistance opens 2 days before we get there.. I have dinner reservations at Grand Floridian Cafe at 6pm.

In a perfect world I like to be our room by 4pm so we can do a little unpacking before heading off to dinner - we want to spend some time exploring the deluxe resorts. Wondering if we should try and move the dinner to a lunch and spend the evening at ASMu in case the room isn't ready until later.

thoughts?

Check in time at ASMu is 3pm, so you should have a room before 4 unless there's some weird hold up.

Is it the opening of the ride that concerns you? We were just staying at CR during SWGE opening week and it did not really seem to make a difference anywhere outside DHS. If you do online check-in I would just say you’re coming earlier than you actually plan to. In all our trips our room has only not been ready once, and it was ready less than an hour after we got there, so I think your chances of having a room by check in time are good.

I wouldn't make any specific room requests, just early availability.

It really depends on how full the resort is. It wouldn't hurt to stop by the desk when you arrive and let them know that you have a dinner reservation and would be willing to take the first available room.

HI - yes my concern is Rise opening and there currently not being any availability at the resort. If we do the online check in can we still go to the front desk to check in - we want to decline mousekeeping and get a first time button for my friend? It's been 16 years since I've been to WDW so it's all so new.

Thanks - we'll do that.

We check in early every time as we usually stay over by Springs on arrival, get up early the next morning and go check in before we hit rope drop. When staying in hotel we get our room right there and then most times. When staying DVC on a cash stay we typically don't get it until 4 or 5.

Yes. NOTHING precludes you from going to the front desk upon arrival to check in in person. I do not understand why so many people think doing online check-in means you cannot go to the front desk. You have to decline housekeeping in person anyway.

In your case I would do online check-in and click the “early arrival supersedes any request” and just not make any requests.

No need to write in caps it makes your comment come across as snarky. I have not been to WDW in 16 years so I have lots of questions. For people that get to go to WDW regularly I get how it might come across as a stupid question but this online check in, declining mousekeeping, dining plan, magic band, doing fastpasses 60 days in advance is all new to me. So I'll probably have lots more stupid questions to ask.

Thanks to everyone that gave me tips for this.
Looks like I should be fine with keeping our evening reservations at Grand Floridian Cafe. We'll do the early check in online and then check in with the front desk when we arrive. We'll be prepared to get our room between 3-5pm ( if we get it early great if we get it later it won't ruin our vacation - we'll just won't deluxe resort hop so we can get back earlier). We are traveling with friends and have asked to have rooms next to each other(or atleast the same building) so if we have to wait til later to get our rooms we'll wait.

That's an interesting interpretation. Perhaps the OP's phone is like mine and doesn't allow the use of enhancements to stress a point.

Many, many more people than just in this thread mistakenly think checking is is an either/or situation. It's not. People can - even must, in the case of declining housekeeping - visit the Front Desk on arrival day.

It's not exclusive to Disney World, either. There's nothing stopping you from going to the front desk at any hotel if you have checked in online.

I don't think any malice was meant maybe some frustration. Just wanted the poster to know that people may interpret writing in caps in a negative way. I'm guilty of writing words in caps to emphasis stuff at work - it usually happens when I'm frustrated with having to answer the same question again and again.

Thanks to this forum I've gotten lots great info for my trip that really has helped me plan and I'm so grateful.

Anyway - back on track to the post - I got some great advice and now have a plan of action(and B and C in case plan A doesn't work ) :flower1:
