Chances of getting a reservation...

Just a quick question for you guys...we are 99% sure we will purchase in October (knock on wood!) We have a trip planned for 12/21-12/26 of this year...right now staying at POP. If we buy thru Disney in Oct, and get our points right away, what are the chances one of the resorts (we wouldn't care what one) would have any availability left for those 5 nights?? It won't affect our Dec trip..we will go even if we pay OOP for POP and bank points..I was just hoping to have a clearer budget idea. Thanks!

We bought our SSR points on October 13/06. We were able to start booking as of October 16/06. We already had 2 reservations for POP (Dec 26 -Dec 31 and Jan 1 -Jan 6). Every DVC resort was completely booked thru Dec 31/06. We were immediately able to get Jan 2-4 at SSR and waitlisted for Jan 1 and 5. Two days later we got Jan 1 and 5. We were never able to get anything in any resort for our December dates so we split time between POP and SSR. Christmas was super busy this year (more so than '05). All you can do is cross your fingers and hope the pixie dust does the trick. You may have better luck with some of the days before Christmas but I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks for the feedback! If we can't get a DVC resort for Xmas it's ok...at least we can bank the points! I can't go any other time b/c I work for a teacher and only have off when she does.....oh well!!! Thanks for the head's up..I will keep my fingers crossed!! :goodvibes

I'ts going to be very hard to get that week even as a member if you call later than 11 months ahead of time. It's the one week that members consitently book and re-book - for many families, it is a standing tradition. As late as October, I don't know if anything will come through for any of December or January - especilally if AKV starts pre-selling late Spring or early sumer and all those new members have points to burn without an open home resort.

The good news for you is that Christmas week is very expensive points-wise, you'll be able to take almost twice as long of a vacation using your points somewhere else & buying in October will put you right at the 7 month window for reserving Spring Break travel. In all honestly, if I ever travel during Christmas week, I'll probably pay cash rather than use all my points.
