Chances of early check-in at OKW

We will arrive at OKW around 12:30/1pm on a Wednesday in late August. How is the OKW as far as early check-in availability?

We have no qualms about storing our bags and heading out to a park, but I was just wondering if this was a possibility? Thanks!

While it is a possibility, the chances are slim. Our experience is that we usually don't get into a room until 3:30 or so.

You can check in to the resort anytime after about 7 am but you may not get your room at that time. They will give you the keys and tell you to call back later. Also if you are doing the DDP it will be activated when you check in so you are able to use it that day. You can check your things as you suggested and go to the parks or use the pool etc until the room is ready.

My husband and his running buddy checked into OKW on Thursday about 10AM. They didn't get into their room until 4PM.

1pm is not really early check in. I ususally get there around 7am. Sometimes I get a room, sometimes I don't. It just depends on availability.

We always arrive between 12:00 noon and 1:00pm on Sunday(we drive from Boston) and have always had a room at check-in, even the sunday before christmas the past 3 years. Many times we have been given a choice. We never have requested anything special except non-smoking and once we needed 1st floor due to injury, but have always had a room available at check-in.

We have been about 50% lucky getting early checkin. I didn't seem to matter what kind of accomodations we had. We have been in 1BR, 2 BR and mostly GV lately.

EDIT: Whoops. I just realized that you were asking about OKW only. We've only stayed there twice. And both times room ready between 7:30 and 9:00 for us.

In about 8 or 9 trips I've only waited for a room twice. And one of those times was our decision...decided to wait for a certain location. So really only once. We usually check in anywhere from 7:30 to 10:30 am.

And the one time we did wait for our room was VWL. And I would think they rarely or never use "room ready", pre-assign all rooms, because it's so small and therefore always full.

Luck of the draw, really. I've had it go both ways. We almost always have to wait for BWV, but then we always have BW view, and there are a limited amount of rooms. Since August is not jam packed for DVC owners, I would say your chances are decent UNLESS you have added a lot of room requests like "near Hospitality House" etc.

Thanks everyone! The info that I wanted was that I could check-in and get the keys before the room was ready. That is perfect! Then w can go about our business and not have to worry!

We stayed in August (checked in on a Wednesday) and checked in at noon. We did not get our room assignment until 5:00PM. (We also switched mid trip to the BCV and did not get that room assignment until 5:30PM). But we have also stayed in DVC resorts 8 times in the past 2 years and only once did we ever get our room assignment before 4:00PM (that was this past October 07 at BWV).

We checked in at OKW at 10am and got right into our room. We also had our room request met. I was very pleased. We weren't picky about location, though.
