Champagne Prices & Questions?

We needed to have a bottle of Mead for our ceremony and Tanis said they could special order it, I went to the liquor store to check prices and then I realized the markup was crazy!!!

We just brought our own!

And we also poured half glasses for our guests, it worked out fine!

Did they charge you a corkage fee for bringing your own? I wonder whether it whether it would make more sense to bring your own and pay the fee, or just pay the Disney mark-up price. Probably depends on how expensive the bottle is?

Gosh, that's a good question, but I don't think there was a charge...there is no cork in Mead, it was all set up when we got to SBP...I'm trying to remember about a corking fee, but I really don't think there was one. I don't remember seeing it on our BEO at all ever.
I think it was set up by the floral team actually with our roses for our moms and our memorial candles etc...
The corking fee is rather expensive I think, so if there was one, I might not have done the Loving Cup ceremony at all...that's another reason why I don't think there was a fee.

I think I bought our bottle of Mead for like $12 or $14! Disney wanted at least twice that I know, maybe even more, I'm kind of remembering like $36 or $39 or something.

Yeah, I think you'd have to do the math and see, but if you wanted a bottle of Dom, it probably would pay to BYOC. Have you asked your planner if you can do this however? I know they do it in restaurants, when exactly are you serving the champagne? If it's at your reception in one of the halls, I don't think it would be a problem, but some of the rules are very strange on this type of thing.

I have not asked her about bringing in our own stuff, although maybe I should! We are planning to do a champagne toast at our reception (GF ballroom), and I was thinking that it might be nice to have a bottle at our sweetheart table, and maybe an additional bottle at my parents' table.

I have seen somewhere on these boards that you are allowed to bring in outside alcohol for your reception, but that there is a fee associated with it. Not entirely sure what the fee is, and whether it is based on the actual price of the bottle itself, or is just a flat rate per bottle regardless of how expensive it is.

Disney charges a taxable corkage fee $20 per bottle for liquor and wine. They also assess a 21% service charge on each bottle opened at the event based on *their* price for whatever you bring in. So even if you get it at a screaming deal, they will use inflated Disney prices when calculating that 21% service charge.
