Challenge for lurkers

I think i could be called a lurker maybe? LOVE LOVE LOVE the podcast, and actually had plans to go on the 1st podcast cruise, but we had to back out for financial reasons :o( Me and my DGF love to listen to the podcast, and definitely feel like we know all the podcasters (we've facebook friended all the ones with facebook....cmon John and Kevin, don't you want your own facebook following/stalkers??), but have often joked that we aren't "group" people and would feel left out at a meet, one of the cruises, ABDs, etc. We're kinda hermits to be honest....other than our Disney excursions :o) Every now and again I post on threads (most of my posts are from a few years ago when I was hard core planning a trip), but not a regular poster. I'm currently trying to encourage DGF to send in a video (I'm using the Ipads as bait), but no go yet. She's talked about sending in a reviews of the bathrooms around the world for a couple of years- maybe after this next trip in a few weeks!! :)

No Facebook for me :surfweb:

Welcome and please join us for a meet!!!

I'm joining in the delurking party! I LOVE listening to the podcasts & enjoy reading the boards - most of the time when I finally look up from the computer, I can't believe how much time has passed! I've found so many great tips on the boards & by listening to the podcast - the resources you provide truly made my boys 1st trip to WDW magical!

I'm heading to Orlando for a conference next weekend & someone asked if I would go to WDW even though I'd be solo - answer: Absolutely! (Actually, I'm hoping to spot some celebrities - Pete mentioned he & Walter would be at the 1st MNSSHP & I'm planning to go that night too...if I run into them, I'll say hello on behalf of the podcast board lurkers! What do I have to lose, right?!?) I'm actually looking forward to going by myself a couple of nights after the conference during the day just to explore at my own pace & be surrounded by the magic!

My love of Disney has really taken off as a result of planning for my family's trip last year! I've even managed to talk my husband into a quick family trip to DL in Jan. on our way to visit family in Hawaii! As a result, I'll be celebrating my birthday in DL/DCA! Can't wait!

Thanks John for the invite to delurk! Tell the entire team how much we all enjoy & look forward to each week's shows!

I love the podcast John, and I do peruse the boards sometimes, but I'll be perfectly honest. This site (this forum in particular) can be a bit intimidating. Not in terms of Disney knowledge, I know I could hold my own with just about anyone on those matters, but the inside jokes that people go back and forth with on here really make a newcomer feel left out.

I remember recently reading the first few posts of a thread and wanting to contribute, but after reading a few more posts the thread turned to talk of llamas (?) and I immediately felt like the only one not in on the joke and left. Other times I've noticed that those who are "known" get responses to their posts while those with few posts are all but ignored.

Now I'm not pointing fingers here as I don't think it's anyone's fault. I think this whole clique if you will has evolved to the point where it's snowballed out of control, and the only ones with any command over it are those that have been here for a long time.

I remember Kevin mentioning on a podcast once, much like you are doing now, to introduce yourself if you're new and you'll be made to feel welcome. I know that it was said with the right intentions, but I have a hard time believing that some (not all) of the people on here with thousands and thousands of posts feel comfortable with anyone "moving in on their territory".

Hi Anthony!

Here's how this works.....

This is a thread about welcoming people who read, but dont post.

We get a "lurker" reading this thread and thinking "wow...this is great"....."why the heck is Anthony talking about llamas and alpacas?"

This is how threads derail. There was no inside joke. We've never discussed alpaca farming or raising llamas. Nor have we ever told anyone that they were a "drama llama". This all happened inside that thread and it got sillier and sillier.

Some talk alot...some talk a little. Some are serious....some are downright crazy. Some people ask for others to say a prayer. One of our regular posters just announced that she's been cancer free for 5 years. WebmasterKathy is trying to talk her husband out of investing in alpacas.

You never know what you are going to get

I think you will find that if you ask "whats going on?"....someone will fill you in. Even if it's about the market price of alpaca droppings....which apparently are quite valuable. (who knew?)

I hope all of the folks that have popped their heads up to say hello ecome regulars.

I forgot to mention.....

Chat is not for the faint of heart.

It makes no sense.

There are 20 conversations going at the same time.

It moves at the speed of light.

It's a stream of consciousness mess and if you try to make sense out it.....you'll go crazy.

I just wanted to give a big :welcome: and DIS hug to all of the lurkers coming out of hiding!!!! :)

The entire podcast team is going to be at the first MNSSHP on 9/14. We will NOT be traveling together like some giant dysfunctional family but if you keep your eyes and ears open I'm sure you'll run into at least some of us.

If we spot you in your DISUnplugged shirt we will say definately say 'Hi'.

Welcome!!!

I have yet to score a DISUnplugged tee...maybe I'll have to trick or treat for one! :disrocks:

I'm new at posting. I have been listening for just over a year but I have listened to all the back episodes. I have only sent one e-mail and I would be willing to bet it doesn't get read. I'm OK with that since I have already found the answer on the boards. :cutie:
The passed two episodes have been nuts!! I think yall need to check the studio for a gas leak. I had to go back and listen to them at least twice each to be sure I did not miss anything.
I love the show, and now that I am caught up, I am having withdraws!! I have a goal of one post a day at least. breaking out of my little shell. :dance3:

Hey-Lo! I am also a semi-lurker. I know a good amount of peeps here. I have been listening from the begining. I used to post more, but I go in and out of lurke-dom (mostly in). I love to read the boards but I am too lazy to post :) . I just got married this May and I have not put my pictures on the computer yet, but hope to soon so I can post them on the boards. I had a way cool wedding. (We walked down the aisle from music from the Pirates of the Caribbean score, had a mickey n minnie cake topper, I wore a red dress, had music from space mountain (star tunnel), Tower of Terror, illuminations preshow... and all kindsa other cool stuff!) My husband broke his collar bone 6 wks before our wedding so we had to postpone our honeymoon. We will be going to Hawaii next month! We will also be on PCC 2.0! (I was on 1.0 with my pop!) I always think about coming out of lurk-dom more... I cannot make any promises, but I will try. Will get more involved soon... especially b4 the cruise! Love reading all the posts!

Ok.... so I found some pix people had on the internets of my wedding.. here is a preview...

We get A LOT of emails where people say they love listening to the show but never/rarely post on the boards.

Here's my challenge to those folks - pop on this thread and say 'hi'. We want you to de-lurk!!!

John

You could guilt them into posting by suggesting that by using this website and not posting its kinda like stealing :rotfl2:

Hi I am jen a longtime listener but hardly ever post. popcorn:: I am getting ready to go on our first family trip to the world in Feb 2011. So I hope my post count goes up a bit as I plan my trip. I also feel a little shy about posting on the boards. I have become facebook friends with some of you all so to break the ice my son wants me to share 3 things about myself with you all. 1. i like to drink coffee. 2. pink is my favorite color. 3 my favorite disney movie is cinderella. :happytv: Nice to meet you all. :cloud9:

Nice to meet you, Jenn!!!

1. I love coffee, too! Serious Starbucks addiction here. I have a Keurig that gets a workout at home (love the no-cleanup thing!), and I tend to use my French press on those weekend mornings when I have time to linger over a GOOD cup with the morning paper.

2. Pink, purple, blue and sparkly are my favorite colors. princess:

3. ... too many choices!

(I'm not podcast Kathy, but I spend a lot of time here! If you ever meet us both, you'll be able to tell the difference. They tell me I have a Texas accent. :rotfl:)
