Chair options?

Happy Sunday all :)

I was wondering...for those of you who have gotten married already, and those of you who have your reception plans in place...

Anyone using Chivari chairs rather than the chairs that come with the ballrooms? Was it a big price increase? Did you find it more worthwhile to use chair covers?

I havent had my wedding yet but I am still dealing with this issue. I'm having my reception in Epcot and the banquet chairs there are absolutely hideous! Therefore, I have to do something with the chairs. For now, I am renting the Chiavari chairs but they are pretty expensive. I think it's about $1050 for 75 chairs PLUS a $180 delivery fee. I think that covering the chairs might be a little less expensive but it still adds up.

I really cant believe I'm going to spend so much on stupid chairs but it will irritate me all night to have to look at the ugly ones ;) Plus I dont want them in any pictures. Haha

the chivari chairs are expensive, but in all the pictures i've seen of table settings, room set up etc, they make the room. they are so much more sophisticated than the other chairs. had i had the option i would have had them in a heartbeat!

GlobalDiva, this is a personal decision that is based upon a couple of things, two of which are your taste and your budget. If you want chivari chairs and have the budget for them, then by all means place your order for them. But if you honestly don't care one way or the other (and lots of folks don’t), then it's probably an expense best forgone since you can use that money elsewhere.

Now, with that being said, for my vow renewal’s progressive dinner party, I used chair covers, sashes, different chairs, and even illuminated tables. I knew I wanted chair covers, so that was an easy decision for me to make – and it’s one that I don’t regret making. But that is me. Other folks make different decisions, as it should be.

I’ll share a few photos below so that you can see how my event turned out. By the way, Disney is using some of the photos from my event on the official FTW website. If you go over there, you can compare and contrast what was used at my event with what was used at other Great Movie Ride events. Here’s the link: click here. Some of the differences between the décor packages are quite striking.

If memory serves me correctly, the Gangster Venue uses the standard black banquet chairs. I chose to add black chair covers with silver cords as sashes.

If memory serves me correctly, the Western Venue uses the standard black banquet chairs. I chose to add black chair covers with burlap sashes, raffia and real daises.

I honestly can’t remember what sort of chairs came standard in the Land Of Oz Venue. I initially asked for chivari chairs, but my Disney Floral Event Manager talked me out of them. And I’m glad that she did. She told me that white, wooden chairs would look more whimsical, especially if they were tied with brightly-colored neon sashes. Her judgment turned out to be dead-on. The venue was adorable with the touches that she had recommended.

Sorcerer’s Hat Venue:

I can’t remember what the standard chairs were for the Sorcerer’s Hat Venue. I went with illuminated cocktail tables and chairs that were covered in black spandex. My Disney Floral Event Manager talked me out of illuminated chairs since she said they didn’t show up too well unless the venue was pitch-black. As it was, the illuminated cocktail tables didn’t show up too well, either, but that was okay by me since I had been warned of that possibility. I figured that if it rained and my outdoor dance party had to be moved indoors, the illuminated cocktail tables would make the indoor venue appear more festive. So, that was the decision that I made. I have no regrets regarding it and would do it the same way today.

Below you'll find a few photos that ~kinda~ show the illuminated cocktail tables (sadly, most of those tables are hidden behind shrubbery in the photos). If you compare the two photos, you should be able to pick out the neon colors of at least two of the tables. Note: Each table changed color all night long -- from pink to purple to blue to green to yellow and who knows what other colors.

I was really quite pleased with how everything had turned out at my event. The Fairy Tale Weddings folks did a marvelous job and truly made my vow renewal a ~magical~ night for all of my guests.

Good luck with your decision, GlobalDiva, and please feel free to ask us further questions.
