can anyone give me some advice on how to prevent chaffing? in the humidity when my legs rub together i get really bad painful chaffing. thanks!!!!

My dad has the same problem....what he does is use a diaper rash ointment on the problem area..sounds weird but he says it does the job. He gets A&D in the gel (it's clear, don't get the cream) It's full of vitamins and good things to soften the area and keep it moisturized and comfortable. Maybe use a little during the day and lay it on thicker at night. Hope it helps you too. :)

My husband also complains about this when he's on his feet for a long period of time.. He also uses the A&D ointment and supposedly it works pretty well..
I had that problem last summer when we went to Six Flags in NJ- I wore denim shorts and it was brutal. I found that wearing light, airy cotton shorts helped a lot.
good luck! :)

Some people here swear on BodyGlide.

Me personally, I bought some Arrid Cream Anti-perspirant at Walmart. Looks like this:

and it comes in a little shoe-polish-like tin. I bought it originally to stop my feet from sweating so much.

Anyway, DH is a big chafer and I liberally rubbed the Arrid on his inner thighs every morning before we went to the parks, and he was dry and chafe free the entire day. Didn't even have to reapply. It was a godsend as it was the first time in many trips that he didn't chafe one bit.

We used BodyGlide during our last trip and would really recommend it.

It comes in a powder form to use on your feet, and a roll on. I used the roll on my inner thighs and under arms, and had no chafing problems.

It's a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion....

I used Bodyglide, both for my January trip and again just this past week (May 13th-May22nd). It's wonderful. You can get it at some sporting goods stores or do what I did and order it online. I paid about $6.00 for it back in January and still have a little left, but will be ordering some more for my Sept trip. I've always been really bad about chaffing, but didn't even turn a little bit red using bodyglide. Avon also makes an anti-blister/anti-chafing balm that is supposed to be very good. I just discovered it and carried it last week, but didn't use it. I just carried it in case I ran out of the bodyglide. I also carry the Arrid cream antipersperant to use on my feet to prevent blisters and it works really well. I've never used it for chaffing though.

Where can I purchase Bodyglide?? I have never see this anywhere. Also what is the Avon stuff Called???

There is a new product for chafing by the makers of Monistat called Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel...it is available in drug stores, I think in the feminine hygiene area. I think this is more a solution if you already have the chafing but it may be good to have on hand just in case!

I've found it at most outdoor sporting goods stores such as REI or on their website - 2 sizes!!!

HTH!!! :teeth:

I just picked up some Bodyglide from REI. You can also order it from REI.com. I'm sure there are other places this is just where I could find it.

When I was looking for Bodyglide for my January trip I couldn't find it anywhere around here, so did a search on the internet and just ordered it. I had it in just a few days and will do the same thing for my Sept trip. The Avon stuff is in their Foot Works collection and is called 'Friction Control Anti-Blister Balm'. I ordered it from a friend of mine, but also found it on Avon's web site. It has 'peppermint oil' in it, by the way so it 'soothes, softens, & helps keep your feet blister free' according to the jar.

oogieboogie - how many tins of arrid do u think i need? we are leaving thursday night (yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and coming home wednesday night so we will be there for a little less than a week. i bought one tin, will that be enough? thanks!!! :flower:

Thanks for the tip on the Avon Anti-Blister Balm... I'm always getting Blisters just walking to work... lol.. so I just ordered some for our trip in July. I think we (DH, Step DS, Step DD) will benefit from it

Another vote for bodyglide!!! My thighs rub together when I walk
and I had no chaffing problems this trip! I bought the roll on (it looks just like antiperspirant) at Dicks sporting good store. I also used it before Typhoon Lagoon and it worked even after i got wet!!! I also rubbed it on the top of my feet and between my toes before wearing my flip-flops and it worked great..no sore spots or blisters!! :goodvibes

I took one tin for an 8 day trip and only used about 1/2 of it. I bought another one for this trip since I can't find the used tin. :)

I love using the Arrid. It's cheap and it works.

Personally I wear cotton bike shorts under a skirt and I don't get the dreaded thigh-rub. However, when it is really hot, that can be a bit ...stifling. If you use Body-glide on a really hot and humid day, how often,if at all, do you need to re-apply? We are at the park morning noon and night!!

I used to always have chaffing problems at Disney. My thighs are large and constantly rub together when I walk. I tried powder, which didn't last because of the heat and sweat. I also tried jellies and creams, but those were only temporary fixes -- and were also messy. What finally solved the problem for me was compression pants (spandex shorts) under my dress shorts.

I had this issue last trip and just put up with it ..
tried baby powder and some lotion cream but all it did was help at first, then no good

Going to pick up some Arrid Extra Dry as suggested and hope next trip.

Bodyglide DID NOT work for me (I had used the stick kind). I was in terrible pain, but decided to try the Baby Goldbond powder that I had packed for my son. That stuff worked wonders to heal and prevent more issues!!! I also agree that bike shorts felt much better than any of the others once chaffing had happened.
