Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for? (comments welcome)

So in terms of mortality risk:
OG marathoner > Dopey > "Just" the marathon... got it.

As far as mindset goes, knowing I've done this three times before (and at least once with far less training than I have now) has a LOT to do with me not freaking out at the moment. But my actual strategy is to hunt down @Herding_Cats and @nancipants and @superchime and force us all to finish this thing together!
I can verify that at least one of those ladies makes a great running buddy for conversation and making the miles go by. All three (or 4) of you? That would be a hoot.

Woah. I was looking back through some old running stuff and found the results from a 10k I did in 2015. I finished in 1:31:28 with a pace of 14:43.

Looking at my recent records, my Apple watch has my fastest 10k at 1:34:23 on Nov 14 of this year. This was part of a 7 mile tempo run where I was running just a touch faster than plan pace. Knowing that I was trying to hit a pace target, and that my plan has my 10k pace at 13:38 min/mile I realized... I am most likely faster than I was 10 years ago!

I haven't run a 10k for time since that one in 2015, so I don't know if this is actually true or not, but the data suggests it is and that is a very encouraging thought.

I spent part of today finishing up some costume bits and gathering clothing for any possible weather situation.

This will go on a visor for my half marathon Small World clock outfit, but I think I'm going to pack it flat and attach it to the visor when I get there.

Also looks like I ran 783.99 miles in 2024. Dang.

Way to go! Sounds like time to find a fast, flat 10k and try for a new PR.

And count me as one of the OCD types who will go out to the mailbox and back at 11 pm to get a round number step count, or in this case, 1/100 of a mile more….

So glad I'm not the only one still working on costume elements 😄😄

783.99 is such a great number to end on. It proves you aren’t one of the crazies that circles the block for that perfect round number 🤪
I might have been tempted if I hadn't waited until January to add up my total. But I guess waiting until January also shows that I'm not obsessed with the number. 🤣

Spent a good chunk of yesterday watching youtube videos from last year's marathon. It's starting to feel like I might actually do this thing.

I've been trying out different running mantras over the past couple of weeks, thinking I might write one or two on my arm in sharpie for the marathon:
- You didn't come this far to only come this far.
- You don't quit 'cause you're tired, you quit 'cause you finished. (I have trouble remembering this one when I'm actually running and it devolves into: no quit tired, quit finished 🤣 )
- Victory lap. Victory lap. (with each footstrike, on repeat)
- Actually, you can.
- and, of course... LFG!

The "to be packed" piles are so big I must think my suitcase is a bottomless pit, or a bag of holding or something. Today I will sort race outfits into their individual baggies and try to make sense of everything else. We leave at 7am Tuesday so I've still got some time.

I love this idea and I want in.

I really think Disney is missing an opportunity by not having a walk-up tattoo truck at these races.

For real. I want one that says “I am one with the Force and the Force is with me.”
There's a tattoo place at Universal if you're up for a post DATW road trip. We know all the best decisions are made during DATW.
