Central Location for hotel?

I was wondering if anyone knew a good central location in SoCal to look for a hotel. We are thinking of taking a trip this Summer to ride the new rides at Sea World and Universal, plus make a quick visit to DLR and maybe Knott's. Would it be better to split our stay between more than one hotel?

If you're plannig both Universal (in LA) and Sea World (in San Diego) then the DL area is probably the most central location if you don't want to switch hotels. San Diego is around an hour to an hour and a half (depending on traffic and how fast you drive) south of DL and Universal is about the same to the north. Knott's is only about 15 minutes away from DL and not a bad drive (take the North 5 to the west 91 and get off at Beach Blvd [frst exit]-turn left, you can't miss it).
