Centerpieces in a hurry

Jeez, I seem to have started something!:goodvibes Please no flames....;)

It was an idea I had when I was thinking of doing an intimate ceremony and an at home reception - that way in philly I could give the fish to my guest.

I was just curious about Disney using them and maybe they would rent or borrow the fish somehow and then return them to a petshop ... Just a thought... I knew that in Florida I couldn't pass them to guests - I guess I didnt make that clear, sorry! - but I was thinking in philly I could

I've read alot of postings on other weddings that use fish as centerpieces, use fish in the wedding cakes between layers, rent mini aqauriums...

Anyway, they really could die and how unwedding-like would that be? A fish funeral? So you did name some of my concerns using beta fish, I just thought it was a very unique and cool idea and people have indeed used them in the past successfully - I've even heard of it at proms in philly too. To be honest, I'd be checking each vase my entire reception making sure they didnt go belly up. I would probably decide against it in the end because of the added worry of using live fish when you are already going to be thinking of so many other things on your wedding day...

To be fair - I just thought since someone brought it up on the board, I would take the next step and see if it CAN actually BE done, That's what we do here isn't it? Ask questions and give ideas and then see how we could work them out? I just thought I would take the next step and see if it could actually be done and maybe figure out logistics where it wouldnt harm the fish, they wouldn't die, and they would be taken care of afterwards. Other brides and proms have done it, so it must be possible...

I say if you want to do it. Talk to your WP, see how much it is done and the details. Everyone is gonna hate different ideas. It's your wedding. Do what makes you happy.

Personally I like the idea. Although there very well could be a few mishaps-- thats kinda how it goes with anything you do. For our prom we used the beta fish and already had the store we purchased from get them in their bowls. Everything turned out great and our prom was a Junior/Senior prom, I was on prom committee and we didnt have 1 fish dead and we had well over 50 tables. All the fish ended up being gone by the end of the night and those which werent we decided we would take them back to the pet show we purchased them from (its so freakin cheap to get them its just easier for them to resell them).

I still think its still a very good & unique idea. We chose beta fish as our choice of fish because we (on prom committee) had a friend who used to feed hers McDonalds french fries and that thing never would die. We thought if they were that tough than we wuold be okay (just dont mix two fish together!).

GOod Luck with whatever you decide to choose!!:thumbsup2

if we were having the reception at the living seas, fish would be a great centerpiece, but its not quite what we are looking for at the GF. Plus with Disney, if you are bringing in some of your own things, you have to make sure that there will be some set up time. Luckily for us, there isn't anything else scheduled that day, so we could bring some stuff to set up at noon. But, the tables may not be set up yet and if they are, the linens may not be. There are alot of variables when bringing your own stuff. The actual setup time for the reception is 1 hour before it starts. Thats why they usually have the prereception in another location.
