We're in 3rd for best response rate so far, behind Wisconsin (80%) and Minnesota (78%). Iowa's at 77%.

No, they know the number of HOUSEHOLDS the form was sent to. The percentage is of households that returned the form. We have 5 people in our family but only one form.

You can go to http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map/ and you can enter in your city and state and it will tell you the participation percent.

My county in Maryland is at 78%. I was told that our local census office has 88,000 residences that have not returned their forms -- oh my goodness that seems high. And, these residences will be visited up to 6 times in order to try and get the form completed.

This is what the Census Website says:
If 100% of households mailed back their forms, taxpayers would save $1.5 BILLION dollars.
