Cellphone Signal at Castaway Cay??

Hi everyone. I have never had to use my phone while at Castaway Cay, but I was wondering is their even signal? Has anyone used their phones while on the Island? Thanks in advance.

I honestly have never tried to turn on my phone at CC. I'm just so into vacation mode, and surviving on the ship without one, that I don't even think about it.

Last cruise, we got a temporary international calling plan that was unlimited data & texting, and calling was included but expensive. (DD and DH were doing a non-DCL excursion in Nassau, so we needed to be able to communicate). We used the texting / iMessaging on Castaway Cay (DD went to the teen area while I visited Serenity Bay and DH and DS snorkeled) so that we could meet up at certain times. No problem with the signal. However, people all around us were complaining the wave phone texting didn't work on parts of CC and the in-app texting (Navigator app) was useless all over the island. Based on my experience, I assume you could call (I always had at least 2 bars with AT&T when I looked to check), but I never placed a call.

I've been able to send/receive texts, make calls and retrieve voicemail with no problem.

Excellent. Thank you for your replies. Now I guess I have to figure out how much a minute it will cost from CC.

There is a Bahamian cell site on CC, so you should get 5 bars of signal. Voice, text, and 3G data all work. Roaming charges on CC are the same price as anywhere else in The Bahamas.

I believe it is a BaTelCo tower, GSM/GPRS service; expensive! For example, if you are an AT&T customer, you'll be billed $2.50 per minute. Plus for whatever data might be downloaded in the background when you connect to that cellular system.

That's true, but only if you don't sign up for the int'l package. For $30 for one month, the price drops to $1/minute.

Not if you turn off "international data roaming." Or, if you get the $30 package above, it includes 120MB of data. Int'l roaming doesn't have to break the bank.
