Cell Phones

Every where I look now, everyone has a cell phone. Well Everyone except me! I've seen even as young as 7 year olds getting cell phones. How old do you think you should be to get a cell phone? I'm not allowed to get one till I'm 16 and driving. That's in a little more than a year.

i'd say fifteen would be an appropriate age. i find people start going places more around this age. to concerts, on dates. it's like the beginning of high school (depending on your birthdate) so it makes sense for them to have one to contact you.
my parents will never buy me one, so it's not one of my problems. we have a family cellphone that we have in case of an emergency or in case our plans change. we don't need a cell phone for everyone in our family.

I know exactly what you mean! I am like the only one in my grade without a cell phone...lol...And my parents don't want to get me one until I'm 16. My sister (now 22) got hers as her 16th b-day present...

Wow! I got a cell phone when I was 12... I have one now and im 13. I think 12-13ish is good, when you start middle school.

I think it depends on each person's responsibility and situations. Its not like there is one "perfect" age to get a cell phone. I got mine when i was about 12, and don't go thinking i'm some rich stuck up brat. Right before christmas that year i was in a show, that got done at different times everynight (for complicated reasons) and we wouldn't what time i'd get done. So for that show i borrowed my moms cell phone. My parents talked and decided that it would be best if both of us had cell phones so if my mom had already left or whatever i'd be able to contact her. That all worked good for us, but might not for someone else. I didn't spend time talking to my friends on my phone and used my home phone for that. Until i was 15 almost none of my friends even had my cell phone number.
So that long explanation simply means, everyone has different ages that a cell phone is the best option. If i hadn't been out without my parents then i wouldn't have needed one. I do agree that most 7 year olds or whatever don't need cell phones, they shouldn't be away that much.

I didn't get a cell phone till I was 12 about to turn 13. I do a lot of after school activities like Drama, Cheerleading, and Track. I think it has a lot to do w/ responsibility though.

i'm sorry.. my friend Lauren can't get one till Nov. 20.. the date of her 16th bday...
i got one when i was 14.. that's when i started to babysit alot more..

so i'd say 14...

I think it depends on how busy your schedule is. I think freshman year of highschool (like 14) is a good time because that's when things really begin to pick up.

I think whenever a child needs it. I know 11/12 was a good time for me. I was coming home and babysitting so it helped me to know when to come home and ext.

i got my first cell phone at the age of nine. it's a young age but with all the things i had going on it was good for me. it depends what you do like after school things. that's why I got mine to keep in touch with my parents to come and get me because each after school would have changing times.

I've had a cell phone for years. probably since I was eleven. but those were pretty cheap. once my mom figured out that I really needed a better one, I got the one I currently have. its verizon flip/camera. I <3 it. I got one that young, b ecause I needed one. I was always going somewhere, and I needed to be able to contact my ride. and I still need one, because I'm almost never home. so I call everyone a lot.

you should get one when you need one. I don't think there is a set age for it.

i got mine in may......i turned 13 in march and it was between an MP3 or a cell phone but i ended up getting an MP3 that doesn't work..........my dad was hessitant because i LOVE to talk but my mom wanted me to have one sooner because of volleyball........i played club so i rlly needed it but i finally got one when it ended.......i'm trying to get a cell phone that you can download music onto because i was jsut planning on a better MP3 thing-a-ma-bobber for x-mas anyways..........if you are involved in a lot of things and need to be able to contact ppl easily alot, it doesn't matter wut age. of course, you should be able to help pay for the phone so i'd say ages 11 and up, depending on how active u are................

Yesterday I went to the mall with my mom and sister, and at the mall my mom talked to the verizon people about plans and phones (she needs a new phone), but then the guy was like well this phone is free after the mail-in rebate, I was like yesss. My mom still says no, but I think she might give-in for my birthday which is in like 30 days!! She's started to realize that I need one, cause now I'm always going places with friends, and I have to always borrow her old, huge cell phone. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed now!

i think when you start secondary school (I'm from the UK so I think that's middle school for people from America) is a good age. That's when I got mine anyway.

I got mine halfway through my Freshman year of high school, so I was 14. I got it on the same night I went out on my first real date ever . Obviously it was one of the best younger-life nights, hahaha. I now can't live without my cell phone. I take it everywhere I go, and even when I go on dates now, I still check in with my mom, either in front of the date if I feel comfortable, or in the bathroom if I don't . And they wonder why I take so long...

I think 15 or 16 is a reasonable age. I think it's ridiculous letting kids who are like 10 years old have them. Honestly who do they need to call when they are that young? Unfortunatly I'm not alowed to have one...I have to use my moms which isn't that bad but still....It's not the same as it would be to have my own! I also think I'm the only one in my grade w/o a cell phone!
