cell phones or walkie talkies

Hey need some input which is better walkie talkies or cell phones?

do any walkie talkies work from hotel to park?

anyone have sprint any promblems working in park, how about nextal?

We used our cell phones on our trip this summer. We had three families vacationing together, so there were five different cell phones between us. We were able to communicate well with the phones. We found only a few bad areas where we couldn't get a phone call through. We all got the plans with no roaming fees with the phones, so no difference in our bills after the trip.

We used walkie talkies on our trip the year before. They worked okay, but the constant sounds of other people on them bugged me and sometimes, we could not decipher if it was a person we were wanting to talk to or not.

If given a choice, I would stick with our cell phones. Our wireless company is Verizon.

Hi Bearloch,
Walkie Talkies typically won't work from a hotel to a park. We were able to be reached at France in Epcot by my sister as she was walking in front of BC though. Cell phones have a longer range, but still have 'dead' spots (we have Sprint PCS). This last trip we had walkie talkies and a cell phone with us. Walkies are more convenient for us to use, but we were always at the same park as the others.

I think having both on hand is a good idea. Some cell phones have walkie talkie-like abilities, too.

Our Motorola units worked between a waterside room at the Poly and the MK because the airspace between is over water and unobstructed. I wouldn't want to count on it though.

We took our cell phones and never had a problem - I have heard alot of complaints from people about walkiewalkies that the range isn't that good. At least with a cell phone if you are in one park and you want to talk to someone in another park, you can. With the phone plan we had, it didnt cost us any extra either.

The best thing about cell phones is that you can set them to vibrate and if it's incovenient to answer let the VM pick up.

A pet peeve of mine is being in a show, only to hear:

::::::::::sqeal...........sghwtgkjghksjg.....DAN are you there?.....DAN?....................DAN?......................we're at the teacups headed towards the astro orbiter............we'll rendevous with you at 0300............DAN???.DID you get that, over?...............HELLO??????????????????..............gkhasfdkjgh;kjgzh;gkjghfx;kjh............I don't think he heard me..............Dan?.........DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :::::::::::::::::::::::::: until "Dan" finally realizes it's HIS wife on HIS walkie-Talkie that has just disrupted 600 other people.

Walkie-talkies are best for in-park use and are generally fine for that. You have to use them with discretion, though, i.e. turn them off when inside attractions or sit-down restaurants. No different from cell phones in that regard.

The nice thing about walkie-talkies is that they don't require a $30 monthly plan!
