Cell phone vent!

I could not agree more!

-Sent by Verizon Droid in Anaheim, CA

LOL, good one!

Last time I was in DCA in 2011, Verizon was so overloaded on 3G I kept getting kicked to their older (voice & data) 1X network. All I wanted to do was upload a picture of Mickey's Fun Wheel at night but it was so slow. Sprint, on the other hand, worked fine for once. I'm on 4G LTE so I'm interested to see if that works better next month. I'm an engineer so it interests me that the #2 provider in the nation couldn't keep up.

But in general, yes, people are too interested in their phone.

Between the overloaded cell sites on all networks and constant use, those people's phones must die really fast! As said earlier, with MyMagic+ that is only going to be worse. One of my favorite things about WDW is being "in the bubble" and this sort of destroys that. With DL it isn't such an issue. While Verizon is generally considered a good carrier across the nation, I've definitely had issues with them at DL & WDW at certain places/times, and with Disney really pushing us all to use MyMagic+ I see the Verizon and the other networks getting more bogged down by data traffic. I seriously doubt Disney's wifi network would be any better.

I'm completely guilty. I rarely go on FB at home (maybe 1x a week or so) but on vacation, I post photos constantly. That's the only time I really use FB. I enjoy it and it pushes me to take pics to record the memories of our trip. Otherwise, I tend to not take photos.

There are many situations where I just put away the camera/phone though because I just want to be in the moment, not behind a camera lens.

But at WDW/DL, I'm typically on the phone constantly taking pics, commenting about them, etc. Part of my vacation fun!

My teenagers have cell phones and when we are at Disney they know they better check in with me every so often! Games are not played, friends are not called and they do not call when they are on a ride or in a show but they know they better pull that cell phone out every once in awhile and call Mom... Sorry if that offends some of you but the cell phones give me more piece of mind and I do expect those calls!

I'm sorry but this topic is ridiculous.

WHO CARES if someone else is on a phone! Let them miss out on an enjoyable vacation. Do those people using their phones affect your vacation? IF not then why do you care? as long as you are having fun and they don't interfere with your vacation then let them be.

I for one constantly have to check my phone as I am an IT guy for a small company and I am the only one on payroll. So if there are ANY problems then I have to respond to them in a timely manner via email/phone call. Also I look at wait times on my cell.

And the comment regarding the kids with the ipads, my niece has autism and she is very fuzzy and can never be in one spot for to long without having a breakdown and belive it or not, the ipad keeps her occupied for long periods of time. So if my niece wasn't on her ipad and instead going crazy or crying in line for a ride/parade/ etc, then I'm sure somone will end up posting how "parents can't control their kids and that they shouldn't take them to disney if they act this way". There are reasons for eveyrthing.

I don't know why people have to complain about things that don't affect them. Just live your life and enjoy your vacation and stop worrying about what other people are doing.

Okay rant over now.

I only care when they decide to walk around the parks with their eyes down and focused on a screen instead of watching for others on the walkways.

Ugh I know. I had a child literally run into me, push me, then walk over my feet at the grocery store while on her cell phone. Look up!

At Union Square in NYC this past weekend they had some protesters regarding texting while walking. A person in an orange safety vest would be attached to a person texting via a little rope (think of a child's leash). The person in the vest would check to ensure no one was in the way or no cars were coming. The vests said "I can help you text and walk." or something to that effect. Bizarre? Yep, but it got our attention. I wish I took a photo, since I cannot seem to find anything about it online.

I agree 100%. Unless someone is being inconsiderate while looking at their phone like in a dark ride or not watching where they're walking, there needs to be more MYOB and less judging. How about everyone who is up in arms over strangers and their smartphone screens look the other way if they don't approve? Talk about not enjoying the ambiance and DL magic :confused3

I love Disneyland. We are local and go about every other week. I run a small home business and often when im in line I need to respond to a email or message. I would never be inconsiderate and do this on a dark ride and ruin it for others, but in line I dont feel im ruining the magic for myself or anyone else. Not to mention a lot of people use their phones for a camera. I think that every person and situation is different and as long as they are not disrespectful of others it really shouldn't matter.

I never understand it, but it is very prevalent. Can't it wait? My own family is guilty. I do admit I use it for checking wait times, but that's it.

One of the reasons I enjoyed our Disney Cruise so much is that Cell Phones would not work. No one had a choice - it was very nice.

Well, I repeat my previous comment-when your phone use disturbs my ride experience , then I care.

I totally agree. You never know what the situation is; whether it be a business-related call or someone missing someone that couldn't be there with them - everyone has their reasons. I definitely think it's pretty common to have to take business calls or check business e-mails while on vacation. And if the iPads helped keep a small child busy because they may not have been old enough to appreciate the environment otherwise then that's better than a crying, cranky child.

DH and I are super guilty of this. Especially in certain queues that are REALLY boring (i'm looking at you Soarin'.) And when it's just the two of us...sometimes we run out of stuff to talk about. So we are the couple both on our cell phones playing a game (stupid Soarin' and stupid lack of cell service) or reading a book or if there is service, hopping on Facebook or texting each other to make fun of those around us without getting busted. he he he (Ok, that doesn't happen much, but seriously, you're at a theme park in daisy dukes and stilleto heels(???) and i'm bored in line. Mocking will commence momentarily.)

Oh course, now that we have a little one, that's less of an option unless we want to go from being that couple on their phones to that couple on their phones while their kid runs amuck (sp?) And I don't want to be featured on that venting thread. Heh

We would never use them on an attraction though. That just seems silly.

I know this is going to be an unpopular comment, but are people REALLY interested in what you're doing every second? Why do they want to see all of your pictures? I'll tell you the truth...I have a FB account, but I don't have any interest in hearing or seeing the blow-by-blow of everyone's lives and I rarely go on for that reason. I appreciate a picture now and then and an overview, but I don't need a map of where you're going every minute or a picture of every spot you visited. I have friends and family that are constantly sending stuff to FB from wherever we are, and it feels a little like that is more important than the time they are spending with me.

Why do I care? I think the question is why don't they?

This. Honestly, when I am being contacted for business, the matter is usually something that needs my attention to the extent, I am going to excuse myself from line, and find someplace I can sit and focus. I would only take calls in line should it be easy to do AND it is an outside queue area, such as Screamin', outside Soarin', outside TOT, etc... Inside Pirates/Haunted Mansion/Soarin', no, it will have to wait til I am out.

When I'm at Disneyland with someone, I rarely check my phone. When I'm on a solo trip, yeah I'm going to check it/play games while waiting in a 40 minute line for Indiana Jones. Or in a 15 minute line for Dole Whip.

But people who look at their phones while on rides (especially darker rides) are the worst.

I'll do the periodic sports checkup, facebook, etc but I also need to make sure my phone lasts all day so I typically kill the data. Also how the wife and I communicate if I'm in line buying food while she finds a table. Also this past trip I got to be that guy who had to deal with a minor fire at work via email from my phone. Wasn't happy about that ;)

I have to say after reading these replies I am glad I am a teacher. There never is a fire I have to put out when I'm not at work!

DH and I do this exact same thing, right down to the texting each other to make fun of girls in stilettos every now and then. Except we use Twitter. A lot. I don't really see it as a problem in line. That's the only time we'll pull out our phones. Once we get close to the front of the line, the phones get put away and don't come back out until the next line. We don't use our phones when we're walking, riding, or eating, just while waiting in line to pass the time.
