Cell phone usage?

I thought that I read that some people use their cell phones from the islands without roaming charges. I have the National plan with Alltel. Does anyone have any experience with this. I will be on the Western. Thanks!

you would need to callyour provider and ask them if they have service and how much it is. Some people have reported here before that their cell phones worked from some places on the Eastern (St. Thomas?-which is US Territory), but so't know about the western.

Most of the Islands are part of an International plan. Watch out you are looking at upwards of $2 a minute.

Also some phones will need a software update to work in certain areas.

In December we called Sprint before sailing and were told to get the update. We got the update and our phones work in ST. Thomas, my sister had not gotten the update and her Sprint phone would not work.

We wouldn't have known if we hadn't called Sprint.
