cell phone (texting) question in Florida

I emailed Telus if my texting was free if I went down to Florida and they kind of "beat around the bush" and didn't answer it..instead emailed me back a page long email about packages I can buy...I do NOT want to buy a package. So I will ask all of you!

I know calling from my cell will cost money...but how about texting? It is "free" on my plan...I get unlimited. But do Roaming charges apply for texting? If so, I won't bother bringing my phone...I just figure it would be nice to be able to text while I'm down there for important things..such as saying I got there safe and sound and stuff...

So can you help me out? thanks!

Not too sure about Telus but I know on Rogers text messages are normally $0.15 but when roaming they're $0.40. Not great but it's still cheaper than making a phone call in some cases.

That webpage might answer some of your questions. It SEEMS to indicate that U.S. text messages are .15c each.

I don't have Telus, I have Bell. If I went over my package limit I was charged the normal cost as if it was a Canadian text. I think it might be because it is the cost for texting in North America maybe.

I love texting at WDW. Now if I could just send/receive the messages faster.

I looked at that webpage...And yes, seems like I would get charged even though I get unlimited here....Just to be safe and NOT receive a 100 dollar phone bill in the mail after my trip, I will stick to emailing. Although I heard internet access at the parks are expensive...However we are staying offsite, so can probably find something for much cheaper than WDW.

My DH just called Telus yesterday about the same thing! I have unlimited messaging and that includes allof North America so it is free, however he pays for his as he goes but the same rate as if he was at home. Hope that helps!

Well if you have unlimited text messaging then it includes North America. As for roaming charges that was our question and the rep we spoke to said "no" so heres hoping!!

Boy I gotta tell ya..

I'd get the name and employee number of whoever you spoke to.

They may be confusing unlimited texts TO anywhere in North America with unlimited texts FROM anywhere in North America.

Protect yourself just in case you spoke to someone who was less than knowledgeable. Have them make a note on your account even!

I called Rogers this afternoon and asked about our plan (we are on a corporate plan offered through DH's employer) and texting. Apparently we are charged 40 cents for every text we send to each other, but no charge for receiving.
