Cell phone service at WDW

I was just wondering what kind of cell phone service is available at WDW. Any problems getting a signal anywhere? My DW and I plan on taking our Cingular phones, and using them to coordinate with each other when we separate. Anyone see any potential pitfalls with this plan?

Also, with the preponderance of cell phone usage, I was wondering if cell phones going off at inappropiate times has become a nuisance at all in the parks. Anyone with any experience with this?

No problems with coverage anywhere in the parks or resorts. I sometimes lose signal when I go into a ride building, but that's not a big deal since you are not in there for a long time.

I have not heard any phones going off in any rides, probably because of the above mentioned reason. You could also set your phone to vibrate.

My parents had no trouble with their "real" cell phones, but I have a pay as you go (Tracfone) and could NEVER get a signal. After the first day, I left it in the hotel room.

I have Verizon and have never had a problem. DS has T-Mobile and has had sketchy coverage.

Great service, and we're Cingular customers too. A funny bit of trivia, there's a cell phone tower near or in AK that's disguised as a tree. I've seen the photo here, but not the actual tower as yet.

Verizon's signal was fairly weak at WL but fine most everywhere else.

If you look outside the park by the far corner of the character greeting area in Camp Minnie-Mickey you can see a cell tower disguised as a tree! I suspect there are more "hidden" towers around the property to provide good cell service.

I have Disney Mobile so naturally we have no problems with that. Their service is through Sprint.

My only complaint is that when the parks are crowded it can be super hard to have a convo or hear your phone. My DH called me several times when I was at MK last week and I never heard the phone because it was so crowded. I couldn't even call him until I was in a quiet restaurant at the Poly because the park was so loud.

As you leave the GF on the Monrail if yu look out the left sidw facing forward(away from the lagoon) You can see one of the stealth towers in the form of a tree. I have a pic somewhere I will have to see if I can find it.

When we took a big family trip in August we all had different providers:

Cingular - great coverage
Verizon - great coverage
T-Mobile - so-so - there were a lot of times I had NO bars

My Cingular signal was pretty weak at Port Orleans Riverside, but okay in the parks.

US Cellular has no native coverage in Orlando. They will most likely use Verizon Wireless. I used to have Verizon and they were 'ok'. Since they use PCS in Florida, sometimes reception can be bad inside those thick concrete walls. However, I think all carriers would have problems in some Disney buildings.

I do beleive Cingular (thanks to former ATT) has some towers on property, Nextel is the official Disney carrier for business, and I was also told T-Mobile has recently added some towers on property. I'd hope Sprint would as well, due to the merger with Nextel and the fact that Disney Mobile uses them.

We have Cingular as well. No problems. As for hearing the phone ring this was tricky and we kept ours on vibrate silent mode and kept it in a pocket, or times when I didn't have a pocket I have a case that I clipped on and I could tell it was ringing even then, with the silent vibrate mode on.

We have US Cellular and my oldest DD has Sprint. Both were perfectly fine everywhere on Disney property.

No problems with verizon wireless anywhere in Disney. We had great reception at POR.
