Cell Phone Rules for Kids ?

I'm 15 and have no rules. Unlimited texting, share 1000 minutes a month with both parents, and no data.
Don't worry--I am a junior in high school in 5 AP classes and on the honor roll. Having free reign of my phone hasn't ruined me :thumbsup2.

I'm considering getting pay as you go for my DS 13.

I would never have thought not to allow them to take them to their bedroom with them.
My dh works for the police and they once got a call from a young man in his bedroom, he called 911 to say that someone had broken in to the house and were terrorizing his parents and the burglars wanted to take the keys to their cars.
I have often thought about keeping my cell phone with me at night incase our phone lines go out for 'whatever' reason.

I'm the same way. I want my DD (11) to take her phone to her room with her. She has had her since she was 9 1/2, we got rid of our house phone so she got one. At first she had 400 texts a month and went over a few times. I soon figured out I would rather have her texting than talking since it was our home phone, so she got unlimited texts.

She has been fairly responsible, except she did leave it in her jeans once and it got washed. She didn't have one until her birthday, which was only 6 weeks away. She doesn't text constantly, doesn't use it when with us, doesn't even bring it to school. I do review her texts. I haven't told her not to delete, because she rarely does. She knows I will randomly read them at will, same with facebook and email. I love her having a phone. I can get her whenever I want to.
