Hi everyone!

I'm in the market for a new cellular provider/plan. I rarely use my phone, but I feel that I need one for emergencies (when driving long distances alone in my non-reliable car etc).

I'm not very up-to-date on what is out there... does anyone have any recommendations for service in Ontario?

Thank you!! :goodvibes

I personally do not recommend Virgin. They are the least expensive but they have very poor reception.

We spent a year yelling at DD for never answering her phone and then gave the phone our DS (who has had other phones) and he quickly found out that it was not a reliable service.

Telus and Rogers are good and have inexpensive plans ( we have one of each at the moment). They will give you free basic phones with contracts. If you really don't use your phone much then Pay-as-you-go plans are less expensive but you will need to pay for a phone.

If choosing a contract plan, keep in mind that the $25 plan is more like $35 when you add in tax and the 6.95 system access fee and the $0.50 911 fee.

I have Rogers my5 plan allowing me unlimited calling to 5 numbers of my choice. I am very happy with it and rarely call outside those 5 numbers. (but I do have 50 minutes for other calls)

BTW Our calling area is Hamilton/Oakville/Toronto.

Friend of mine has had Virgin pay as you go Nokia phone for years no problems. Perhaps you had a lemon of a handset.

you are cheeky Ham Ham

That is one honking big lemon

We have Rogers (bundle) but when I go to the states I use at&t pay as you go

Thanks for all the info, and for the giant picture of a lemon! ;)

Now here's a dumb question... my current cell phone is just fine. Is there anyway I can transfer this phone to another company, or is whoever I choose going to make me buy another phone? (I'm assuming so, since that is just another way for them to make more money! :headache: )

this is just me and I am 40 so not up on high tech stuff but check w/ both the old and new carriers? now my teen/adult kids could tell you all sorts of stuff about switching sim cards but that makes my head hurt
