Cell phone plan help

That is pretty strange, because when you bring a phone to add to a plan, it should not matter when or how they were obtained, as long as you own them outright. Seems untrue, but that is the problem with these phone carriers. Nothing is transparent and there are no laws requiring transparency in pricing.

Tbh I think Sprint is the problem....Most the other sites are pretty transparent when it comes to this stuff. There shouldn't be a BYOD fee but it does seem like Sprint charges less if you finance a phone. Sprint has been grasping at straws for years now making dumb mistake after dumb mistake and changing plans and features overly commonly. It's not the network I'd be giving $275 a month for and tbh even though a few ppl said go in and talk to a person at the store....it's the last thing I would suggest people do. These ppl are salesman and not there to get you the best deal, they're there to get the sale. They work on commission(most the time) and have no intention of looking at your needs to find out what works best for you.

Paying $275 a month without paying for the phone seems incredibly high to me tbh. We have 5 lines with Cricket for $100 a month...sure I don't get to subsidy(Nobody really does)but if you look up ahead there are far more advanced phones than what they're using for far less money and with the savings over two years you could even afford one of the high end phones and likely still save money.

We had the family share plan as well (unlimited data, unlimited texts and 1500 minutes of shared talk) and I was terrified of getting rid of it. We had 4 lines (me, DH, our "home" phone, and my sister's phone) and 2 tablets which each had 2GB of data per month. Because we had unlimited data, there was an additional charge of $30/month per phone to use it as a hotspot. Since my sister did not have internet at her house, she added that option. Our phones were all bought under the 2-yr agreement, but we completed that already. Our bill, including my work discount, came to about $325/month.

I recently went into the store to inquire about DD's tablet that had stopped working. We ended up talking about our plan and I asked about the process and cost for activating our old iPhone 4's for our DD's. They certainly don't need phones yet, but I was trying to evaluate our options. The rep was so helpful and genuinely listened to my concerns. I told him that we use a "lot" of data because I am always streaming music and videos at work and I don't want to have to chase down wi-fi hotspots all day. I also told him that we are NOT interested in anything that will INCREASE our bill, actually, quite the opposite. He asked me if he could look into my account and evaluate our usage and give me a call later. I agreed, since I had nothing to lose. He called me back about an hour later with great news. He told me he has a plan for us and wondered if I would prefer to discuss it in person. Since we live about 5 minutes away, I went down to the store. It was worth it! Here's what we ended up with....

We bought a 20GB shared data plan with unlimited text and talk. This includes up to 10 devices (tablets or phones) and so we had 4 phones and 2 tablets. The rep then activated our other 2 iPhone 4S for the kids, bringing our total devices up to 8. Since the data plan is now capped, ALL of the phones can be used as a hotspot so that $30/month fee was removed. They had a promo going on which gives an additional 2GB of shared data per device for as long as you keep the plan. That bumps our total shared data up to 36GB. I was very nervous, but he said that he'd evaluated our usage for the past year and we never went over 14GB in any month and averaged about 10GB. That really made me feel better, but then I was still very skeptical. The rep was AMAZING...he told me that because we had been customers of Sprint for 19 years, he was able to WAIVE the subsidized phone fee that would have applied to DD's phones (at $30/month, PER PHONE!) and our total bill would be $275/month on the new plan. Seemed like a no-brainer so we went for it. We ran into a snag when they tried to activate the phone (my old one) for DD13. They asked me where I bought it because it was showing that it was a Boost phone (or something like that) and they couldn't activate it. I told them I'd bought my iPhone 4S from them, in that store, but I had to replace it under their warranty and they replaced it with a refurbished phone. It took them a while, and I suspect they were trying to verify my story since they were basically accusing me of trying to bring over a non-Sprint phone, but they finally came out with a huge surprise. They asked DD13 if she'd like a new phone instead...AT NO CHARGE! Since they couldn't activate the iPhone 4S (presumably due to an error somewhere on their end), they offered her an iPhone 5c in pink instead. It's a refurbished one, but it looks brand new to her and she loved it. Since DD10's tablet was not reparable (and that was the whole issue that started this all), I ended up paying $80 and buying her a new Galaxy Tab E to replace the Tab 3 that was broken. I had to sign up for the 2yr agreement but I have no intentions of switching at this point.

After about three days, I looked at my account and saw that we were only given 20GB of data, not the 36GB we were promised. I stopped in to the store and spoke with the same rep. He remembered our discussion and said he'd look into it. He assumed that they somehow forgot to add the promo. He looked at the account and realized that was the case, but he also checked to make sure that the subsidized phone fee was still removed (via manual override) and it was. He said, "I'll take care of you...I don't want you to worry one bit". Two days later, I looked again and saw that we now have 40GB of data! I stopped in to the store for a minor issue with one of our devices and he asked me if I checked my account. I said, "Yeah...you fixed it good!" He said that ALL of our phones are eligible for an upgrade and the subsidized phone override will remain in effect for as long as we have the plan. He also told me that he authorized the 2GB of bonus data for all 10 devices that we are eligible for, not just the 8 that we have. I tell you what, Sprint (and this store in particular) has earned a customer for life! I could not be happier with the customer service I received.

If you went to T-Mo you would have paid about $120 for 6GB of non shared data and gotten FREE Galaxy phones to go with that. They include unlimited music and video streaming to select services as well. If this was recent I'd suggest going in to return and undo everything they did and shop around for a better deal.

we had sprint since 2004 with just a flip phones--last yr we were going on a european cruise and DD did some checking and found a plan that included unlimited text which when we added the international roaming for $5 was a very cheap and easy way of keeping in touch with family she said best buy had a great deal on iphones---Im not a big fan of best buy but off we went

the deal was lease the phones for $1 a month or buy out right for $200--we chose the lease--this was last April--we were on the cruise in May so it was June before I could really sit down and study our bill only to find out we were being charged the $20 phone lease

I was hot--called BB that said our old plan was too old to qualify for the $1 lease so it just deverts to the next best plan

we were never told of this and the manger at BB was not very helpful----so I contacted the BBB about a week later I get a call from sprint billing manager who said they were going to give me a $240 up front credit for the first yr of the phone issue and then $20 every month after that until the end of the contract

which was the difference between leasing for $20 and the $1 lease

so to OP of you go through BB please make sure you read and ask alot--to me it seemed BB was trying a bait and switch

even less of a BB fan now

Likely a training issue....BB employees get no commission for selling their devices so unless the store is struggling for business you're unlikely to find any pushyness or lying to get you to sign up. But Best Buy also ends at point of sale. Once you get those phones, it's in the hands of Sprint to charge you correctly and more than likely that's the problem. You aren't leasing through BB, you're leasing through Sprint.

I agree with your main point though....Make sure if you're promised something to get it in writing and check your bill to make sure they followed through.

I don't suggest going into every store like Verizon or sprint because they're going to run your credit each time and that can hurt your credit score. My boyfriend and I use metro pcs. I have an iPhone 6 and he has a nice droid and we pay 100$ a month for unlimited streaming talk and text.

When looking at carriers and prices.... also look into "coverage". Talk to neighbors and co-workers what they use.... and what "deadzones" they found.

Outdoor coverage is not normally a problem. Indoor locations like Elevators, apartments, shopping centers and places with no windows are a huge problem for discount carriers.

Which discount carriers are you talking about? They usually are just reselling service provided by T Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon.

They all use the same towers so it's not really an issue of it being a discount carrier as much as it is the frequency that the carrier uses. Lower frequencies penetrate buildings better. So it really comes down to which frequencies are implemented in a certain area. I've found T-Mo to be the worst when it comes to building pen. With Cricket(AT&T prepaid)it's significantly better but I'll on occasion lose service deep inside of a Target.

If you want a lot of talk and text and data, I would look at Republic Wireless. Their phones are Motorola Androids and range from $100-$300 and the plans are $10 without data for unlimited talk and text and $25 each with unlimited everything.

I was very happy with the service itself, but DH was offered a deal through work so it was about the same price and I could have my beloved iPhone!

i suggest going in and talking ot them - you are going ot get your best info directly from them
And have them write every single thing they're telling you down in detail. Make it known from the beginning that your are not buying or signing anything that day. You want to know in detail what your options are by having them write it down stuff that gets left out when you try to figure it out online is in front of you and you have someone to answer your specific questions.
