Cell Phone Options

I'm starting the CP August 10th. Currently I have my cell phone service through a local provider (US Cellular). A US Cellular representative told me that I would be unable to use my service for my entire stay in Florida. And that usage outside my area although is permitted is intended only for temporary travel times. The maximum time would be 3 months.

My questions are -

How would US Cellular know that I was not just travelling but temporarily living in Florida?

If other CPs had this problem, what company did they use for cell phone service?

I dont want to sign a two year contract because I only need service for the 5 months I'm on the program.

A lot of cell phone companies have a pay-as-you-go option now. So no contract is needed. I know AT&T and Verizon has it, not sure about other companies though.

Also, some companies (Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T come to mind) have discounts for cast members.

You should be able to port your current number to a new provider, and you may even end up paying less than you do now, so signing a new contract might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Does any one know what the discounts are?

I think they are pretty much universally 20%

We have a sprint family plan and get 20% off the total bill, it's pretty great.

Plus unlimited nights starting at 7 pm( where ever you are), and unlimited weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile with any Sprint customer and no roaming charges.

We got it when my sis lived here on west coast and when she moved to FL it didn't matter one bit.
