I know to have the app and to have the phone on airplane mode. I will be having it with me for photos. Can I text and use social media when the ship is docked at Nassau, or would I have to get off of the ship(no plans to do so)? What about CC, am I good there?
Thanks.

you need to learn how to determine what system your phone is connected to .....

anytime you connect thru the ship it is $$$

in some ports you might connect to your 'home' cellular system so no added cost

there is no cellular service on Castaway (except thru the ship .... unless there's something new .....)

Just call your cellular carrier. They get these questions all the time, and can easily tell you where your phone will work, and where you will and will not get hit with roaming charges. For example, in the USVI, you are usually covered under your U.S. domestic plan.

The larger carriers often offer "port plans", where you pay a flat fee (of usually $10/day) to use your phone in a given port. It's usually not unlimited talk, text & data, but still enough to get you through for the day.

I think you can get a signal on CC, but I am not aware of any U.S. carrier who offers a port plan there. I could be wrong, but you'd be pure "roaming", I believe.

If you’re really in a crunch and need to get connected then I suggest going to Hard Rock in Nassau.

But other than that..you’ll need to purchase the ship plan. 1000 MB is $89 but they have smaller plans along with a pay as you go option.

I have tmobile cell service. My service on Nassau and on CC is pretty good (data is included in my plan.... I think if I were to make cell calls there would be .20 cents per minute charge).

I have AT&T. I use the $10/day (24 hrs) international option to connect. In April as soon as we got into port I turned off airplane mode & had access just like if I was at home. I used it on the ship when I could get signal. Same for Castaway. Once we were docked I came out of airplane & had full service. It’s via the Bahamian network on Castaway.

My bill the next month was only $20 extra. Worked beautifully. Plan to use the same plan while touring Ireland for 15 days in September. Already budgeted the extra $150 to send into AT&T.
