I need a new cell phone, it is required to be Verizon. Tell me about phones and pricing for plans that let you Dis and FB from them.

I have a driod and I love it. They are not good swimmers though. ;) The data plan so you can DIS and FB on the phone is 30 extra a month higher than your normal plan.

DO NOT GET A BLACKBERRY!!! I am anxiously awaiting my contract with Sprint to expire so I can go back to Verizon and as of this moment, would get a Motorola Droid. My contract is up in about 10 months - so there might be some different technology by that time, but I can't imagine what more you could need that isn't already on the Droid. I've been drooling over them since they came out, and then Mr. Majors showed me all the really neat stuff while we were waiting for Kenny's Golf Carts to deliver a part to him. I think Chris is still cleaning my fingerprints off of it! :lmao:

Rick has a Palm Pre' through work, but it does not hold a candle to the Droid.

Chris got annoyed with me because I kept texting him softball scores while he was showing Deb all the cool stuff on the Droid. I guess I was the third wheel!:confused3

Anyone know about the Droid Incredible?

Dan, I have heard the I is great. Would go with it except job will be getting me a discount on Verizon, and I will be calling and texting to other employees and we all need to have the same carrier.

Oh, I also need to learn to text better. Only done it a couple times and I am slooooow. DS says there is some new thing on phones to make it go a lot faster when typing.

For your first texting phone, I would get one with a full qwerty keyboard.

Rick has a Droid with an on-screen keyboard and it drives me crazy!!

My son has the same model, but with the slide out keyboard and I like it much better.

(We are T-Mobile, so no help on the Verizon thing.)

Like Deb, I have another year before I can upgrade my Blackberry. While I'm not having the same trouble Deb is having, the Blackberry only has "so-so" internet.

Anyone know about the Droid Incredible?

From what I see comparing the Incredible with the Motorola Droid:

With the Incredible you gain:
Faster processor
more RAM (512mb vs 256mb on Droid)
higher resolution camera (8 megapixels v. 5 on Droid)

But you lose:
Slightly smaller battery (in rated amps- no idea what the difference might be in real-life usage)
Slightly smaller screen resolution (848x480 on Droid, 800x480 on Incredible)
No physical keyboard

It looks like Verizon is selling the Droid and the Incredible both at $199 right now, so the main difference is preference. Get your hands on both of them and try typing with each. Jen swears by the physical keyboard, while I can get pretty good speeds with the touchscreen keyboard. It's not the kind of thing where I can say one is better than the other- you have to decide that for yourself.

One app that you really need if you're going to have any flavor of Android phone is the Cnet Scan & Shop app- here's a quick story to tell you why. Last week, I went shopping for a new portable DVD player- my DS is rough on 'em. I went to Best Buy, and found one that I thought was a good deal. I scanned the UPC code on it with my Droid and it told me that Sears across the street was selling the same model for $40 less. I could have saved even more if I was willing to order it from Amazon.

Anyone know about the Droid Incredible?

We just ordered the Incredible for DH - they are back ordered at least two weeks if you upgrade online.

Are you eligible for the upgrade credit? With that, and a googled promo code, we got the Incredible for $134. It was a little expensive but DH uses his phone all the time. As a PP has already mentioned, be advised that Verizon has a mandatory $29/mo web package.

DH liked the feel of the Incredible and it has gotten pretty good reviews.

If you don't need that much on-line time, Verizon just downgraded some of their phones. When I started looking months ago, the LG Touch also required the more expensive data pack but now only needs the $10/mo one. This is the phone that I'm getting. We also purchased a Samsung Intensity for DS#1 - no data package.

Good luck, happy shopping and let us know what you decide.

Wow, I am so glad I asked, I can't keep up with technology it moves too fast. The shop thing is great, I love to save $40.00. :thumbsup2

I need to do something by Fri. I'll let you know.

The Droid has "talk to text", so you don't need to worry about typing. The i-phone may also have that, but I've never looked into an i-phone. The Samsung Droid has a very nice qwerty slide out keyboard. I haven't seen the "Incredible". Our local Verizon store didn't have one in stock yet when I was there 2 weeks ago.

You are not alone Denise. My famly laughs at my texting ability and cell phone knowledge,

:lmao:

My son told me today, get something simple you'll never figure out the Droid.

I take that as, go ahead and get it and give it to me when your ready to throw it against the wall. pirate:

Jeeze, I'm old or simple..or both.
I don't text....unless I have too. Which usually means my kids, because they won't answer me any other way. :headache: I can usually get whatever the free phone is that's offered. Ahh...remember the days when people actually "talked" on a phone...

Pay extra for internet on the plan...:confused3I don't think so, not for me. My younger son wants to add it to the plan in August when he's due for a new phone. I plan on having him pay for it! :sad1: I guess it's all about FB...:headache:

I've been asking myself "are you so addicted to the Dis and FB that you can't go thru the day without them" ?

I'll know on Friday.

I can safely say for myself, YES! But that's the advantage of being retired I can spend the whole day on the laptop.:thumbsup2
