My very, very, very old cell phone has finally died. I need a phone as well as a plan and I'm looking for something cheap. I rarely use the phone, but would like to be able to text occasionally as well. I probably make on average maybe one call every few days that lasts a few minutes. Can anyone recommend a carrier they like? I live in South Jersey and usually travel east toward the shore and west as far as Hershey! TIA

I'm in the Cape May area. I use Virgin Mobile basic plan (load $20 every 90 days). I txt a few times a day and 1 or 2 calls a week if that. My average is about $6 per month.

If you don't need any fancy phone, they have a few around $10. I have the Kyocera Jax $9.99. It is a nice small phone, works well, no frills, clear reception, doesn't look like an 80s phone  .

I've never had an issue with reception anywhere...from NJ, to FL, to PA, up in ME, out in Chicago. DD used hers while out in Arizona.

They have plans that start at $25 for 300 minutes, unlimited txt, but that sounds like it would be overkill.

You can purchase the phones on virgin mobile website, or they sell them at Radio Shack, Walgreens and Rite Aid. Probably other stores too, but those I know for sure.
