For those of you who have celiac disease, which WDW restaurants would you recommend as having the most gluten-free items on their menu?? I will be making PS's for our upcoming trip in Feb and would like some opinions as far as the most varied selection for my DH to choose. HELP!!

:wave2: Good news. I work with a gal in your DH's same situation.
She is finding that many WDW restaurants have special (mini selection) of gluten free choices.
Just tell your server and they may give you a mini menu with around 4 - 6 choices.
I know San Angel Inn offers this type of special menu.
Interesting, the corn chips she COULD eat. But not the salsa! The salsa contains flour.
Even though the menu was selective, my friend was very happy with the choices offered.

...did your friend specifically let the CM's know that she needed a gluten-free menu beforehand [when she made her ressies?]. I was informed by concierge at AKL, that they will let their chef know ahead of time about the special dietary needs. I was wondering if they could prepare 'non-gluten-free' items offered on the menus as gluten-free for a guest...BTW ~ wow, I never knew salsa contained wheat!! (and here is a perfect example: couldn't they make the salsa from "scratch" without the wheat???)

We asked why the salsa contained flour and were told it was used to help thicken the salsa.
I won't see the gal until Monday. I know she checked around and seems she found info on this. She is very conscious about being gluten free.

At San Angel Inn she told our server as we were handed menus. She was asking to see the chef, and Ta-Da was handed the limited selection menu. She was very happy and relieved. :)

I think many WDW restaurants do this. I am just not sure of the details. I will ask. :)

We are eating dinner tonight at Kona Cafe. I will ask there if they have a special gluten free menu.

...the link, DMRick!

I'd sure like to hear about your experience at Kona Cafe (I already had planned to make ressies for O'Hana's!)

When we went last April, we included on the PS information that one of our party had Celiac, two were vegetarians, and one had other dietary issues.

When we arrived at the restaurant (Cinderalla's Royal Table) for dinner, we reminded our server, and he brought the chef out. He walked us all through the menu, and pointed out what would best suit us, and offered switches to suit our various needs.

He also brought out spelt rolls along with the regular wheat ones.

Everything was very good.

..so, how WERE they (the spelt rolls)?? I haven't found ANY kind of bread/rolls that are worth 'a lick' !!

mmmm..... Dinner at Kona sure was tasty tonight!! ;)

I asked at Ohana's and Kona Cafe. Neither had specialty menus. They both said to make sure any specific dietary needs were listed on your PS.
THEN you could even call ahead (suggested by Kona Cafe) in addition to mentioning the dietary needs to the server.
The CM at OHana's told me their chef looks over the PS' every day to look specifically for guests listed with dietary needs.

If you are using concierge services, I would rely on them to contact those restaurants without the special menus.

I think the fact that the fellow who had celiac wouldn't let us have any, speaks well for their taste.

That being said, I'll take my wheat, thanks!!

And if you go to Cape May Cafe, be sure to write down which chef you talked to before arrival. We were accused of not calling ahead and not mentioning it in our PS (I went with the chef to the podium where he could see we did indeed mention our special need in the PS). Got a lukewarm apology.

Every other restaurant at WDW we went to was awesome: Cal Grill, Jiko, Spoodles, and Kona Cafe.

....this was one of the PS's that I had planned on making [highly recommended by a friend!]. I MAY have to rethink this....hhmmm :scratchin
