My DH just received leave from the Navy :) for April 18-26. That means we only have about 3 weeks to plan our very belated honeymoon. We never got to take one thanks to the Navy. We are using Armed Forces Vacation Club which goes through RCI. We are looking to stay at either Celebrity Resort Lake Buena Vista or Silver Lake Resort. I've heard more good things about Silver Lake Resort than Celebrity. We are a couple in our early 20's so we'd like something that might have more to offer than just a swimming pool. Has anyone had any recent experience with either resort? I've read reviews from 2004-early 2006, but nothing to recent. I'd love to hear what anyone has to offer. Also is there a certain building that we should ask for in either resort?

Thanks!

Hi congratulations on your recent wedding.

What size unit did you get offered?

Can you believe it we own a week at both of these resorts. At Celebrity we have the 3 bedroom lock off unit. There is not alot of activities at all at the Celebrity Resort. Very small complex. No security gate. They have a tennis court and a very small pool, no bar, etc. nothing really to do there except lay around the pool. But the location is great, it is very close to a ton of great restaurants, in fact you could probably walk to them, and is also very close to Downtown Disney, you would still have to drive but not far at all.

As for SilverLake resort having a family I much prefer being there. We own a 2 bedroom there that sleeps 8 so I am familiar with these units, but we just stayed there in Feb 07 and stayed in the newer building that sleeps 6. The resort has two pools, one is very big, with a hot tub and a great bar area. Happy hours and great food. Stays open I think every night until 11 pm. On site they have shuffle board, tennis, basketball, great workout room, free use of computers in the activities building, golf simulator etc. Location is really great, but you will have to drive to go to a great restaurant. Gated security as well.

I think you will probably enjoy Silver Lake Resort more for the atmosphere.

Not sure what kind of plans you have, but I don't neither resorts offer any free shuttles. Sorry

Thanks so much for the quick reply. We'll be renting a car and staying in a 1 bedroom. Armed Forces Vacations offers any size for the same price at $299 per week. We only need a 1 bedroom so we thought it'd be perfect for us. We'll be renting a car so that we can do Universal as well as Disney. Most of our plans will have to work around those 2 places. Thanks again!

Ok check with the Celebrity Resorts unit as the lock off splits into a (1) bedroom with full kitchen, king size bed, jacuzzi, full livingroom, w/d etc. But the other half is also considered a one bedroom, but it consists of (1) bedroom with 2 double beds, hotel style kitchen in the living room area microwave, hotel style fridge and a smaller bathroom, still jetted but just regular style.

Can't speak for the one bedroom at Silver Lake but I think they also have full kitchen one bedroom units, but they also have hotel style one bedroom units.

Good luck have a great time

I'll check with them, but I'm not sure exactly if we can choose since we're going through the Armed Forces. It's not a timeshare. It's just a service that is provided, but I will still check. We definately would rather have the king size bed and so forth. You've been a great help!

I recently stayed at Silver Lakes. We really enjoyed it. If you changed to a 2 bedroom unit you probably would be assured a king size bed and a full kitchen. And in the 2 bedroom unit we stayed in the master bath had a double sized jacuzzi tub and a huge shower (big enough for two ;) )

I like Silver Lake, but mainly because it is so close to Animal Kingdom.

Always book a two bedroom if you can. Some of the one bedrooms are small. Some only have partial kitchens. Never book a one bedroom at Silver Lake unless it specifically states a full kitchen. I hear their one bedroom lockoffs with partial kitchens in buildings 100-700 are not very nice. A two bedroom has a better chance of getting a large whirlpool tub instead of a standard size bathtub. If the price is the same, go for a two bedroom unit.
