It's day 18 at the Sober House and everyone is on edge awaiting Seth's return from the PRC after his three-day drug and alcohol fueled relapse. What happened to Seth? What did he do for the three days he was missing? How will his return affect everyone at the house?
Before Seth leaves the PRC he is given a tough talking to by Shirley, one of the PRC nurses, about his relapse and her hopes that he can maintain a sober lifestyle once he returns to the Sober House. Then Will and Seth board a van and are driven back to his anxiously awaiting friends. The mood is mixed as Seth bounds up the stairs and greets his sober comrades. Some, like Jenn, are just happy to have him there, knowing that he is safe and sound. Others, like Andy, are upset that Seth does not seem very remorseful about what he has done and the effect that it has had on the others in the house.
The next day at the PRC, Mary sits down for a one-on-one with Dr. Drew and he helps her decide that her future career may somehow be linked to her love of ballet. After she and Dr. Drew say goodbye, Mary heads to the ballet studio for a little practice with her teacher. Watching Mary execute a complicated set of dance steps, her teacher exclaims that Mary may be the best student she has ever had.
Dr. Drew worries that although Nikki is doing well with her sobriety she seems very unmotivated to get her music career back on track, so with the help of PRC counselor, Bob, he hooks Nikki up with a sober musician, a guitarist named Zander. Nikki and Zander hit it off and excited by their new collaboration, they recruit Steven for a new sober band they are forming with the intention of recording a song. The song they pick is "Inconsolable" a song that Nikki loves but has avoided recording as it reminds her of her mother who died of a drug overdose nearly one year ago. With the recording session around the corner, Dr' Drew sits down with Nikki for a one-on-one to discuss the pitfalls of being a working musician while maintaining a sober lifestyle.
The next day the group heads out to get rid of a little aggression with a spirited game of Paintball. As they suit up for the game, Seth blatantly breaks the rules and shoots Jenn in the leg bruising her badly and pissing her off in a major way. On the Paintball field everyone from the house is on one team and Jenn is on the other. As the paintballs fly, one by one players are picked off and to everyone's surprise the last man standing is Andy.
Back at the house Jenn is already in a bad space when Seth comes in her room and hands her a piece of crack that he found in his pants it's the first time Jenn has held cocaine in two and a half years and makes her very uncomfortable.
To try to keep herself on the straight and narrow Jenn meets with Dr. Sophy, she is not in a very good place and she feels like no one at the house understands her and what she is going through. Dr. Sophy comes up with a plan where Jenn will do a play for the residents of the house and through her performance the people at the house will get to know her better. To get her play off the ground Jenn asks Andy for help and they go over ideas for the production and possible storylines to explore, leaving Jenn feeling that with Andy's help they can create a great theatrical experience for everyone.
The next morning does not start well for Nikki as she gets a call from her 10-year-old son that her best friend is at deaths door from AIDS and may pass away before the day is over. On top of that she learns that back in Texas, her cousin has shot and killed his stepfather during a drunken brawl. The anniversary of Nikki's moms death is in two days and she is scheduled to record the vocals to "Inconsolable' later in the afternoon with Zander and Steven. It's going to be a very rough day.
At the recording studio Nikki listens to her song and choking back the tears informs her band that she cannot record, as she is too upset because her best friend had just died twenty minutes earlier and her cousin had been jailed as a murderer. The band tries to console the "Inconsolable" Nikki.
Across town Mary has decided to have dinner with her manager/boyfriend David to clear the air about the way David treats her and all the other people in the house, calling them users and losers. The dinner does not go well, ending with David pitching a fit and storming out of the restaurant.
When Mary gets back to the house, Andy and Jenn confront her and tell her that they are very worried for her as she is about to leave for an appearance at a swinger's convention in Florida called Swingfest. Mary tells them that she would much rather stay with them at the house but that she is deeply in debt and need the money that Swingfest will provide. They tell her that they are available by phone 24 hours a day and she should call if she feels she's about to relapse.
As Mary packs, she vents to Amber that she does not want to go. As Amber looks on Mary gets a phone call from David and has a total meltdown on the top of the stairs about David, Swingfest, and all the pressure she is feeling. Will she go to Swingfest and if she does will the pressure lead to a major relapse? Only time will tell.
